New Go35 Pro footage

Thanks bklyndv! The footage looks great, and I don't detect any static grain pattern in the examples I've seen. Nice work!

First, I need to find a B4 to Nikon mount adapter (no one currently makes one). You can use a Century Optics' B4 to C-mount adapter, and then mount a C-mount to Nikon adapter to that, but that gets a little messy, and I don't even know if the backfocus distance would be within range.

Once I find the B4 to Nikon adapter, I can then mount a Nikkor 55mm Micro to that (although the Nikkor 55mm Micro is pretty slow). Unless I can find someone that makes a macro optic (or a diopter that doesn't need a prime imaging lens to work) to mount directly to the B4 or Nikon-mount. My goal is to have a completely hard-mounted solution, so that all optics are "locked-in" with mechanical, metal bayonet mounts. I really want to avoid the "GG adapter-stuck-onto-the-rubber-lens shade" approach.

So here's the standard Fujinon A20X8.6BRM 2/3" lens that I already own. The front-element, screw-in filter diameter is 82mm. Of course, I was hoping to avoid going through all of this glass, and instead, mount an achromatic diopter, or macro lens directly to the Sony DSR450's B4 bayonet mount.

Here's a B4-mount macro lens I found at B+H from Fujinon with a 52mm filter diameter!:

So, say I buy the Fujinon MAF20B 20 mm f/2.0 macro above, I gain two benefits:

1. I have a relatively fast, high-quality, macro-imaging lens that locks mechanically to the 2/3" camera body's B4 bayonet mount WITHOUT using any adapters (granted, at f/2.0, I've lost slightly more light here than I would have if I were using a zero-light loss diopter in front of my f/1.8 standard lens).

2. The front element of the MAF20B is only 52mm. Doesn't this mean that I would be able to use existing popular 35mm adapters (such as the Go35) designed for smaller cameras?

Could this actually be possible? Have I finally found the answer to my 2/3" shallow depth-of-field woes?

Whoops! I forgot one little detail . . . The DSR450 is a native-16:9, widescreen camera. Given that this macro is a 4:3 lens, I would "lose" 20% of my "angle of view" when shooting with it on a 16:9 camera. Given that, would this set-up still work?

If this actually works, here's the pile of new Nikon lenses I would be planning to buy to use with this set-up:

1. Nikkor 24mm f/2.0 AIS manual focus [$599]
2. Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS manual focus [$699]
3. Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AIS manual focus [$529]
4. Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro AIS manual focus [$329]
5. Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AF-D [$924]
6. Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-D [$400--used]

The Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 I just picked up used last Friday at Samy's Venice. Great lens! It's a non-VR, and a non-S lens, but what a great price! Plus, I don't need the 'S' speed for cine applications! I might end up substituting the rather pricey 85mm f/1.4 AF-D, if I can find an older manual-focus 85mm f/1.8 instead. But it sure would be cool to have three primes, all at f/1.4 or less (35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.4)!

To get a Nikon lens on a Sony B4-mount, 2/3" CCD camera, I don't see how I can get there (so I can use a cheap Nikkor Micro lens instead of the expensive Fujinon macro). I only found this for $404:

Nikon F to C-mount

Then you'd have to stick that adapter onto this thing from Century Optics (not that that would actually work or anything):

Century 2/3" to C-mount adapter

Century makes a Nikon to 1/2" bayonet mechanical adapter, but not a Nikon to 2/3" adapter. Century also makes something called a 'C' to 2/3" optical relay for $2,500. Even after reading their description, I have no idea what this product does:

'C' to 2/3" optical relay
