Actors Who Turn You On/Off To a Film

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine and we were discussing the respect you have for some talent and by them being in a picture it makes you want to see a movie. This was piggy backed by the Russell Crowe interview where he said that audiences should trust him and go see his movies just because he is in it (he's not arrogant at all, right?).

So my question...

Who are your deal breaker actors? Who if they are in a film will you automatically go see the film and/or who if they are in a film will you automatically refuse to see the film?

(I'm going to get my list together)

Keanu Reeves!. He always ends up in movies that would have been so much better without him. Devil's Advocate? Way to ruin that one. "Let's go make a baby". Whatever.

He's about the only one I don't want to see.

Will See:
I like to see Denzel Washington (for his precision)
I like to see Gary Cooper (Am. Beauty, Adaptation)
I'll check out most of what Kevin Spacey is in.
I'll check out any of the 2nd city training center group (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, etc.)
Robert Duvall
Edward Norton
Tom Hanks

My brain is running on empty at the moment, so that's all I can think of right now.
I wouldn't say that I will automatically go see anything that someone is in, but I will check out a flick I might not have otherwise, if only to see the particular actors performance.

That's all for now, that I can think of.

Will See Anything With:
Jodie Foster
Kevin Costner
Kevin Spacey
Morgan Freeman
Tom Hanks

Refuse to See:
Ashton Kutcher (he overrides Kevin Costner with the Guardian)
Brandon Fraiser
Ben Affleck

There are a lot more, I just need to spend more time going through who I hate.

These are not definative. If the movie looks bad enough not even my favorite actors will make me want to see it. Likewise if a film looks good enough I'll see it even if I can't stand the cast. So with that in mind....

Will See:

Johnny Depp
John Cusack
Edward Norton
Val Kilmer

Will Not See:

Russel Crowe
Collin Ferrel
Ashton Kutcher

Who directed a particular film is infinitely more influential to me than who is in the film.

TURN OFFS:

Nic Cage -- I agree, he's a turn off.
Michael Caine -- after seeing The Prestige, I realize that as soon as Caine walks on I feel like I'm watching a movie I've already seen).
Denzel Washington turns me off a movie--I know I'm going to get something excruciatingly conventional.
Edward Norton--like a guy picked randomly off the subway who can sorta act
Will Smith
EDIT: yeah, Krestofre is so right...no more Russell Crowe

TURN ONS:

Matt Damon--he's good and picks good movies.
Tom Cruise--this wacko's still riveting on film. I forget all his crap as soon as he starts acting.
Catherine O'Hara--I know I'm going to get something truly unconventional
Parker Posey--ditto (can you tell I love Christopher Guest)
Will Ferrel
Viggo Mortenson
Chris Tucker--where did this insanely funny guy go
Johnny Depp
Cate Blanchett

I really like Nick Cage, and pretty much enjoy most of the flicks he's been in. Even Valley Girl, but particularly Wild At Heart, Con Air, and Raising Arizona- also starring John Goodman, another favorite.

I also agree with krestofre about Ashton Kutcher. I still can't believe I watched Dude, Where's My Car... twice. I really can't believe I laughed at it!

Will see:

Christian Bale
Jeff Bridges
Johnny Depp
Lieve Schrieber
Jack Nicholson
Ralph Fiennes

Won't see:

Christian Slater
Tom Cruise
Jessica Alba
Jessica Biel

There's more...just waking up.

Isaac, for the love of all that is holy in the world of eye candy... say it isn't so
At $10.75 a pop for a movie in New York City it'll take a whole lot more than eye candy and bad acting to get me into a theater. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

I thought Jessica Alba was pretty good in Dark Angel. Sin City and Fantastic Four just were bad writing for her roles. I haven't really paid much attention to other movies that may have had her.

Yeah, 'cause Man on Fire, Training Day, Inside Man, Rounders, American History X and Fight Club all sucked. For real. Those guys suck.

I hope my sarcasm is bleeding through to the intertubes.

Anyway, any movie that Christian Bale is in interests me for some reason...he picks some awesome roles.

I agree. I always thought that was what porn was for.

I know, they just turn me off. I find Denzel and the movies he picks really conventional, personally. It's personal. What's most interesting is how actors go from being loved to over-exposed--how we as audiences love them when they're fresh and choose fresh movies. As soon as we've seen too much (Russell Crowe) we get turned off. If we'd only ever seen Crowe in LA Confidential and The Insider more people would probably still love him...but he wouldn't own as many houses.

Good point. Probably why I'm such a big fan of Bale--he still seems fresh.

Bad
DMX can make me turn any movie off.
Tara Reid can't act. She should do porn and get it over with.
Estella Warren can stink up anything she is in. Again...porn.
I'm sick of Tom Cruse.
Singer/Actors are usually a good sign that a movie will suck ass.
Any actor who agrees to say "what the..."
