It might have been said in jest, but not that far from the truth either.

That's sometimes easier said then done but if you even find some body with an old DV or even Hi8 cam. Just go for it man. Shoot something, anything because you'll learn the most by just doing it.

yea i gotta learn just by using my mother's video camera but oh well maybe i should just shoot stupid little videos of people doing stupid things like in jack ass; just for experience mind you ;-)

$2300 wich includes an Century $700 wideangle lens + Barry Green's Book and DVD
It has 176 hours, and has won me 10K in gear this year.
So it's guaranteed to return your investment X 4

(the last sentence is a joke)
(but the 1st two are true)

wow i don't even have $1000 lol
thanks anyway jack :-) I'll just have to use my GR-SXM245 lol hehe with 70 different combinations including Digital wipe/Fade and special effects lol it's not bad for the everyday video camera :-/

here's some real advice:
Enter drama fest for exhibition with your current camera.

i don't think i should because i have no experience whatsoever i have to do a couple of things on my own first
I mean i probably would get a lot of experience from doing that but i'm afraid whatever i film is going to suck because like i said no experience at all lol

don't know if that was worth justifying but hey i'm new and nervous about all of this
thanks for the advice though!

have any of you guys filmed a documentary?? If so can you tell me what that experience was like, equipment, what it was about, etc tell me of your filming experiences! :-)

Just start the thread for your film with:

but you thought you would take the plunge

People will take you under their wing and give you advice in the preproduction stages and they will give you feedback according to your experience.

You will still get ranked where you get ranked in the overall score, but part of the communuty here means that a first effort won't get trashed, but will be treated accordingly.

I think you should enter and start a thread saying that your goal is to fail as many ways as you can.

You can always change your username if it's all that bad and it will be like it never happened.

But the big thing is taking advantage of the deadline which will make you take the 1st step and complete a short, and having a discussion forum to guide you and give you feedback.

I'll shut up about it now :) :lipsrseal

If you have no money and no experience, this is the best advice you'll get- search your local www.craigslist.com , and find a few gigs to work on. You might make a few bucks, more than likely all you'll get is some experience. In the mean time, practice with what you have. And welcome to the community :)
