Porta Brace and other Rain Covers/Slicks/Jackets for the HVX200

I just purchased a Porta Brace Rain cover for the HVX. However, I'm finding it hard to equip. It seems to have an entry on the top, which I just can't understand what's there for- it cannot be closed completely- I'm affraid rain might go in from there. It came without any instructions. Any user with experience with this item?

the top is for access to the handle/top zoom. It velcros closed and bends to the side for protection.

Thanks for the info. One more thing: do you take the viewfinder eyecup out when puting the cover and use the cover's rubber simulated eyecup, or leave it on and try to fit it with the cover?

Does anyone know of a good rain cover for the HVX? I'd like to compare all available options before making a purchase.

Anyone come out with a decent slicker for Firestore users with the hot shoe mount? That would make for one tall slicker.

Would a rain cover do for the snow as well or should I purchase something that is submersible?

I got the Petrol last week and test-fitted it on the HVX, but haven't used it "in anger" yet -- we had some rain this morning around 2AM, but I didn't feel like running outside for this.

I have not used other rain covers, I made my purchasing decision based on research I did online with respect to design and features.

I haven't seen a snow cover for the HVX yet, but I know portabrace makes winter covers for other cameras. They are like a ski jacket for the cam, even have pockets inside for hand warmers to keep it toasty, had one for an XL1 and it was very nice.

If you are talking about shooting snow sports in powdery conditions and/or while skiing/snow boarding, then I'd get something like the Ewa Marine VP 2 instead of a rain cover, otherwise there is a good chance of getting snow inside the rain cover and damaging the camera.

i need a rain slicker / cover and would like to get one that will fit over the bare camera, and be flexible enough to also fit over the camera with rails and my soon to be here brevis 35mm adapter and matte box. Any suggestions? or am i doomed to have to use a trash bag for the bigger / bulkier option?

How is the access to the menu buttons and scene file dial with the Porta Brace cover? Does anyone have more detail pictures of the cover they could post?

Jake, not that it helps your HVX, but the Brevis should be fine in rain/snow. If you need it completely waterproof, let me know..it just requires an extra 0-ring.
