Trade my buddy my 15" macbook pro for his 17"?

I just got a pretty good deal on a new 15" MBP, but I wanted the 17"er. One of my buddies just got one 2 months ago and he barely uses it, and he'd be willing to trade me. The only thing he wants me to do is to copy all his stuff from his Mac, and throw it in my (Still yet to be opened) Mac. So heres my question:
What would be the quickest and easiest way to copy all his stuff onto mine? He moved and now lives about 2.5 hours away, so I was hoping to do it while I'm up there, and not have to take it to a Mac tecnician. I think the only things that he has on it are a bunch of itunes songs, pictures and maybe a new program or two. This is my 1st Mac, and he doesn't really know much either; so what whould be the easiest and most reliable way to do this? maybe buy a firewire and connect them - dump the files, or... I dunno. I there anything else I am forgetting that I will need to do for us to trade? Should I even do it?

Very simple. Start his Macbook Pro up in target mode (when you turn his on, hold down the T button) it will start up with a firewire icon on the screen, no OS boot.

Make sure to have a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable.

Now when booting up the 15" Macbook Pro for the first time, it will ask you if you want to use the Migration Assistant to transfer everything from a different system to this new system. Do that, connect the Macbook Pros together using the firewire cable, and follow the steps provided. Wait a little while, maybe an hour or 2 at tops, and that is all.
