On the Topic of Macbook Pro Hard Drives

you mean you can't capture right to the G-Drive? I capture directly to my G-Drive everyday... might be your configuration... FW800? FW400?

Are you sure its setup in FCP as your Capture Scratch drive? maybe if its not showing up, trash the FCP prefs, but im not familiar with the EXPRESS versions of FCP.

I just got the 2.33 C2D Macbook as well, 'its niICee"

Remember this is the MBP C2D. Yes I have trashed prefs. I use FW800 for the G-Drive. I have a Canon GL2 conected with FW400. The odd thing is I have 2 GL2 Cams. The older GL2 works fine with the G-Drive on my Powerbook but the newer GL2 hogs the FW connection and will not work. Anyway neither GL2 will work with the MBP unless I use the Transintle 120 Gig HD. Your configuration works probably because you have a different cam or different hardware setup. GL2's are kinda twitchy in my experience. Without the EXT HD both GL2's will work with the interior HD, so like I say it's probably a bandwith hogging thing, since both GL2's Firewire ports are operational unless you plug in an exterior HD. Yes have set the capture drive to which ever ext HD I use. The controls will operate the cam and cause it to play in capture mode but no capturing is possible; the MBP will freeze with a spinning rainbow whenever the G-Drive is used..

Yeah, I feel the new C2D was worth it. I can even watch MPEG movies smoothly without frame lag from an inserted 2 gig SD card taken from my Casio Z750 camera; My Powerbook gives a lot of framerate slowdown when playing directly from the SD card, not that there is any real reason for me to do this. Neertheless it's like having an exterior 2 gig HD. Hmmm...wonder if I can capture 8 minutes of DV video from the GL2 on it! LOL!

if you do a search on the web you will find that swapping out the internal drive of the MacBookPro, and MacBook is VERY easy.
which means you can max out your internal drives speed and storage per the limits of the os and laptop specs....
