Hey leave The Stooges out of this!:)

If you don't know what Iggy Pop and The Stooges did for Rock N' Roll, the rest of your opinions are moot.

I wonder how many songs you've actually heard by the bands you put in bold. Especially Elliott Smith and Bjork (which by the way, I should have mentioned, I wasn't talking about solo rock artists per se, just something I felt like listing instead of creating a new thread for). I mean, you DID list guns 'n' roses and AC/DC, so that says a lot... Why do people keep insisting that Foreigner, Guns 'n' Roses, AC/DC, Metallica, and Balck Sabbath are good bands? I liked that stuff when I was 13 maybe. Whatever though. To each his own I guess. I can kind of understand. They're not badass at all.

Props to everyone that has mention Van Halen.

Ditto, but this makes me sad:

Edit: modded the link after realizing there was a link to porn on the original link.

Bascially the original link describe Eddie working with his friend in the adult film business to score this adult movie, Sacred Sin. The new links are the videos (no nudity or anything) of the music he wrote for the movie.

Cheers

1.The Rolling Stones
2. Black Sabbath
3. Led Zepplin
4. Jefferson Airplane
5. Aerosmith
6. Nirvana
7. Korn
8. Tenacious D
9. Guns N' Roses
10. Blink 182

this list has a lot of bands I hate in it (nirvana, GNR, and most of Zepplin and Aerosmith) but most of the bands I listed were innovative, and left a mark on the genre. I don't consider The Beatles rock because they were a pop band IMO. Sabbath was the first metal band IMO (Dio rocks too.) Zepplin had amazing riffs/vocals, Airplane had the female rocker, Aerosmith introduced rap/rock, Nirvana introduced grunge and started a fad, korn took made Nu-metal, Tenacious D invented Folk Metal and has proclaimed themselves the greatest band on earth, GNR seem to have a lot of followers and did make some good music. They also are like the rock band. Blink 182 started the second coming of punk.

Honorable mentions to Dio, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and of course the inventors of Gimmick's on stage KISS.

Nothing that hasn't already been said.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Led Zepplin
Pink Floyd
AC/DC
Guns N' Roses
Metallica
The Who
Queen
Nirvana
Lynyrd Skynyrd (FREEBIRD!)

It's kind of amazing how people today don't really understand just what The Beatles were to music. They WERE the cutting edge at the time. They set the standard and the style. There were other great bands but EVERYONE was waiting to see what The Beatles would do next. They were one of the first popular groups to move away from the typical rock song into the message song. They also pioneered music videos.

I've been fortunate enough to live through some exciting times in music and still believe that the late 60s/early 70s were truly the golden age. It formed the foundation of what was to come.

I'm pretty young but I also consider the 60's and 70's to be the golden age of music

I love the beatles above all others and I wish I had been around during the time that was all happening. Besides filmmaking I'd also like to be a musician....and i'd say its only because of them. They were masters of thier craft...and I don't think they will ever be matched for what they accomplished.

Which reminds me...has anyone checked out "love" the mix album that George Martin did? Its pretty damn fantastic...some amazing things you never would guess would sound good together. Organ from 'for the benefit of mr kite' mixed with the bass/guitar ending of 'shes so heavy'. All with an echoing voice of Paul screaming from 'Helter skelter'. Theres alot of other great stuff on there too. I'd highly recommend buying it.
