Dare use your HVX-200 on a Sticky-Pod on a moving car?

I have a Sticky-Pod Pro (base plate with four suction cups) and have made
out great getting driving shots with my Mini-DV (2.2 lbs.) camera.

I read somewhere -don't know - where somebody posted that he was
hesitant or simply unwilling at all to put his HVX-200 on his Sticky-Pod
for a driving shot. Why? Sticky-Pod says that it will hold up to 25 lbs.,
at least the Sticky Pod Pro.

I haven't got my HVX-200 yet but I'd like to know if anybody has used
it with a Sticky Pod Pro.

Thanks!

I used a FilmTools.com mount with my DVX a few months back...I wouldn't hesitate for a second putting my HVX up on there...in fact I WILL be doing that soon.

Just make sure you have adequate insurance. You don't have to tell them what you are doing, just as long as its insured incase you "drop it".

I used the sticky pod once with the DVX at probably 65mph on an interstate, didnt have a problem. I wouldnt put my hvx on it though, simply because of the value, and the fact that you can rent a pro- car rig for 75$ or less for your shoot.

Im not sure how many insurances cover "dropping" its more stolen/liability coverage.

I've put my HVX-200 on cars, vans, BOATS (lots of boat mounted shots). I know someone who's shooting on cars. If you're hardware is of good quality, and you take your time to set it up properly, no problem. Insurance is always nice to have, cause no one foresees an accident.

Unless you're getting scammed by your INS company, they will cover any loss, theft, or 'accidental' damage to your equipment.

I was thinking for some car chase stuff i could take the hatchback off of my CRX and thered be room to sit back there with the camera either on a tripod or shoulder mount and have a great perspective of everything around me. might be a good idea no?

CRX here: (not mine, just a pic from google)

Sorry its not the best angle, but heres a shot of the DVX100a on a hostess tray car mount. We went 120mph, and the only problem was that the focus ring moved from the wind, a small peice of gaff tape fixed that. It was lots of fun.

Doug: cool video, is it like a tv show/pilot or something?

Kyle: yeah for sure, email me: eric(AT)ericpapa.com and i'll hook you up with it!

Eric, it was mostly just us fooling around one weekend. It was a pilot last year for Channel101.com but didn't get picked up. I'll admit it's a little bit weak but I think there's still something to the concept... may come back and take another stab at it someday.
