If I shoot in 30p and then capture, what prject settings do I need, or will it automatically know it was shot with no fields.

Why would you seperate lower fields, wouldnt that deinterlace the progressive footage, that kin of defeats the porpuse of 30p.

30p is recorded onto your dv tape at lower and upper fields they are just the same. You can edit in a lower or upper field timline but there is no such thing as a progressive timline for 30p. When you make the dvd of your video or you make a web compression just sellect progressive so that the dvd player can take advantage of this if you have a progressive television.

No, you can have such a thing as a 30 frames progressive timeline, I found out how, you just goto custom project settings and set your framerate at 29.97 with no fields.

I'd love to be able to have a 30p progressive timeline with Premiere Pro 2.0. Could you explain how you did it? I'm aware that I can change the editing mode to desktop, and then select progressive, but I need to see my footage on an external monitor. Desktop does not provide this. Thanks in advance.

whihc brings me back to my original point, You cannot edit DV in prgressive becasue it is a lower field format. When you view it on your teleivision it needs it in 2 fields. You can edit using desktop if you want but for dv its pointless. Just edit while having teh ability to view it on a television and then you can just deinterlace later without lossing quality becasue your lower and upper fields are the same!
