FCP --> Compressor -->(CRASH)--> DVDsp

I recently got my hands on a copy of DVD studio Pro, and with that I decided to test it out. When I try to use Compressor to export my video footage as Mpeg2 everything runs through fine and finishes "successfuly". But as soon as I try to, well even just click on the newly exported file, finder freezes, the file doesn't respond and it doesn't even have a icon image, its a blank sheet.

Same thing when i try to import it into any program, everything freezes automatically, even DVDstudio.

So I ask you guys. Ever experience this before? I've had to use .dv files with studio pro now.

What format do you prefer to work with when DVD authoring, or is there anything that you can think of thats causing this problem??

"got my hands on" doesn't sound like a normal install, since FCS is all of a piece now. Assuming a legit install, are all your versions matched?

Well a buddy of mine had a copy of studio pro 2.0.5 he doesn't need since he bought the newest one, He also gave me FCP ver.5.0.4 and Compressor ver.2.0.1

Even if the versions aren't the same, a Mpeg2. file shouldnt crash programs just from clicking on it.

Anyclue as to why thats the case?

you need to update your os to 10.4.8 i think osx 10.3 doesn't work well with large m2v files and it causes the finder to freeze. you can bring regular quicktime exports from fcp into dvdsp and it will convert them for you. it will just take a lot longer

keep exporting as mpeg2...nothing is wrong with compressor. when finder is trying to create a preview for large mpeg2 files it can freeze, so don't look at the file in finder in a view other than the tile view.

DVD studio won't even let me import teh file, and its happened every time I've tried too, and I've exported a number of files to see if perhaps it was just that once.

So since my Mpeg2 files aren't working is there another solid format I should try to export as to import to DVDsp?

you can import qt fcp movies intro dvdsp. you dont have as much control over the compression but it works.

MPEG-2 files don't open up very well in QT Player. Your finder isn't really freezing up, as much as it's waiting on QT Player to analyze the file and open it up. It take for freaking ever. Just open it in a DVDSP project.

If you friend bought "upgrade" versions of Final Cut Suite, you're still violating the license agreement, as you're both running the same license number. The software itself doens't change between a upgrade box and a new box, it's the license agreement (that no body ever bothers to read) that's different. Upgrade boxes of the software allow you to run the upgrade without a new license number.

Its not a question of time though, I'll try to import the Mpeg-2 file into dvdsp and as soon as I even select the file the entire application freezes then "unexpectingly quits" I dont even press import, before this happens.

Is there a specific format that would be best to do this? Mpeg-2 must be the basic standard for DVD authoring then is it?
