Turning a crowd of 30 people into 500+

AE is a super usefull program to have under your belt as well. I remember when I first started using it I wanted to get right at it, and I shot a scene similar to what your aiming for. I had a classroom of 60 people edited after only have 3 to start.

The pain was that I didnt take time to look at the software and realize about mattes and keyframes... I used the eraser tool... for every frame.

Its been a fun learning process.

I did a few clone shots after that, heres one of just me and myself.

Here's a tutorial on creating a crowd with AE plus the Trapcode Particular plugin. It assumes basic knowledge of how AE works, but is pretty straightforward. You can do all of this without Particular, but it's going to take a lot longer, especially if you want to experiment.

That is a cool trick effect. Any chance of posting briefly how you did it? I guess its simple when you know how, but trying to fathom out the paper picking up is doing my head in!!

Shows what a big learning curve I have to go through because 99% of that was way above my head! :crybaby: :dankk2:

with my effect, i essentially, shot two plates, one of me walking to the bench and sitting down from the left and one from the right, I then set up a few masks (pen tool) and animated them (keyframes, click the triangle next to your layer to reveal all the guts of your layers, youll find all the settings, effects, masks or anything thats assigned to your layer once you click the triangle, you can also unlock 3D dimensions for movement if you click the box to the right of your layer name that looks like a cube.) to cut out the wanted and unwanted video. Thats how the cars pass by seamlessly, its a busy street so it made it more of a challenge than it could have been if I shot it at a different angle. It was also in the afternoon so the lighting changed very quick, and a little colour correction was used to blend the two layers, but again man, AfterEffects is a super cool super powerfull and definitely a super fun program.
I don't know as much as I would like to about the program but Im more than happy to help you out if you have any questions!
ENJOY!
