NORTON ANTIVIRUS screwed my FCP

Everything was working fine on my FINAL CUT PRO. I then decided to clean up my computer. I ran NORTON antivirus and defragmented my drive and all that good stuff. After i tried to use my FINAL CUT PRO and it doesnt work right. It wont allow me to import p2 clips. It shows the icon of the clips but then it tells me ONE MORE P2 CLIPS FAILED TO IMPORT COMPLETE CORRUPT FILES. This only happened after i ran that stupid program. Someone told me its the program that is the culprit.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I've heard the two programs are a big no-go for working together. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have no idea how to fix.

Last time I used Norton Utilities and other Norton software was about ten years ago, and then I swore never again. If I were you, I'd back up data to a HDD, then re-initialize and start over again. And next time, I suggest you don't fix what ain't broke ;)

I have never ran antivirus On PC or MAC, as far as Im concerned half the issue is in the fearmongering. With WINXP kept upto date, firewall running you shouldnt really ever have many issues. I did get hit with the KLEZ virus a couple of years ago but with the removal tool and win update I was fixed in 10 minutes. Only time I was ever bitten.

My real issue with antivirus though its its intrusive nature, in fact it ends up being the biggest virus.

Im not sitting on my mac right now and have never used the option so dont know, but does MACOSX have a system restore function?

Trash your FCP preferences using FCP Rescue. Reinstall the P2 driver. Run MacJanitor, then repair your system drive's permissions with Disk Utility.

And never, ever, ever, never, ever use a Norton product on a Mac. There's really no reason to degfrag a drive anymore. Out of date technology.

First off you don't need a antivirus program for any mac. Now if you're stuck with it (or if you can delete it, just make sure nothing is attached) and have to import, you'll need to turn the antivirus off in the antivirus preferences and FCP should allow you to capture. Just remember when capturing you'll need to do this every-time. ;)

I have deleted Norton and everything associated to it. I then deleted and re installed final cut. But still doesnt work. Someone suggested i reformat my computer. Right now I am running panther. If i update will that fix my problems. Since someone suggested that nortons seems to have corrupted my current os x system.

I dont own the mac janitor. And could not locate fcp rescue. I did trash norton and ran disk permission

Here is how you trash the FCP preferences:
To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.

Here is FCP Rescue:

It ain't time to reformat your drive yet. Sheez! So many people just want to give up and refomat their system drive, and that's just so the-lazy-dude's way out! Anyway, no, not yet, we ain't re-formatting anything. That's too much time for too small a problem... I hope...

There are some files you need to remove before RE-installing FCP. Otherwise the reinstall won't do any good. I gotta look them up, as Apple doesn't have the list in their support files for version 5.0. So, I have to go looking stuff up, and I've had a full day, and I'm beat...

It's very late here, I'm brain dead, and I have to get up before the sun, which is just plain stupid by itself, and shoot bayous in the freezing ass cold (cold front just came through, that time of year), damp as you can imagine in a very bad dream, pitch black, moon has already set (NO light, period), navigating, freezing...

I'll be back early in the morning, as in, AFTER the sun has come up, and yet, before the sidewalk has warmed. My scence of time is shot... I'll post before noon Central Standard Time. Hang in there with me, y'all.

You also have to remove all your Reciept files and one other I don't recall off hand...

I also have a HVX user buddy who did the 5.1 update, then 5.1.2. and now FCP won't launch. Crap...
