Hi all,

Im currently looking into the CitiDISK HD and P2 card..... Ones 4gb the CitiDISK HD is 100gb.

P2 is $569.99 and CitiDISK HD is $1098.00

I like the idea I can recod to MOV and AVI ready to edit. Also u can update to the MXF format once they have that up and running.

Ill be shooting for greenscreen and also doing a lot of stock footage which is why i think the CitiDISK HD is what I need.

Few questions though?

Does it compress?
Are others around here using it?
Do you have to ave a P2 card in the drive to capture to it?
How much footage can you run thew these before they are full
cheers.

There have been a number of threads here regarding CitiDisk, so I would suggest that you search to find the pros and cons. I have not yet tested one, but the few user reports that seem to be posted are mostly negative. I would seriously consider the FS-100 since that is a proven technology.

FS-100 has MANY more features the CitiDisk lacks. IMHO, CitiDisk is too little, too late, and for folks who are not doing this for a living (i.e, can afford it, but not the FS-100).

FS-100 has disk and clip repair functions, time lapse settings the HVX won't do on it's own, Snap (as in snap-shot), etc. The new v.3.0 firmware upgrade coming out will make it even more attractive with the new features it will introduce.

If all you can afford is the CitiDisk, you at least have more recording time than P2 cards. But if you can afford the FS-100, it is hands down much more superior to the CitiDisk.

Citidisk issues unresolved

Citidisk issues unresolved

Two months ago I bought the citidisk120 HD. Only after reading about the specs I decided to go for it.

It claimed to record DVCPRO HD to MOV and AVI format . Well it it did but something wierd happened. All the recording was either garbled or black, although the sound was there. Totally useless in HD.

In DV recording mode it recorded perfect in AVI format. I did'nt buy this citidisk for SD recording.

The reviews I have read did not cover the issues I have experienced, so my decision to purchase wasn't biased. I gave the thing the benefit of the doubt.

Well I have posted in this forum for help. I have emailed tech support, no reply. And I called , but they wanted me to leave a message (uMMMMM,errrrr.!) :(:Drogar-Love(DBG): :Drogar-Evil(DBG): :zombie_smiley: :Drogar-Smoke(DBG): :crybaby:

Well I bought it from BH Photo and there return policies says that video equipment need to be returned within 7 days for a full return. If it is not it may be subjected to a 15% re-stocking fee or worse refused.

Don't know if it was broken or if it was my incompetence. I just know that it wasn't working for me, so I returned it right away so that I wouldn't be stuck with something that was useless to me at that point. Lost money on shipping both ways to and from Hawaii = big bucks.

This Citidisk recording issue to me is still unresolved. I am still waiting for it to be updated and fixed, because it will provide an ideal recording device for me.

Anyways I got me the FS-100 , and so far so good.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the 3.0 firmware upgrade coming out soon for the FS-100 is going to blow you away.

Pinakbeth's story is yet another of the long line of horror stories I have heard about CitiDisk. I really want this product to do well; I had a long talk with the folks at NAB and then spoke with them in July just prior to shipping. I was supposed to receive a unit to evaluate for one of my articles. I'm still waiting. I really do not like to speak ill of any vendor and I try to find something positive in every product, but my confidence level here is not great. Meanwhile, I am a very satisfied user, reviewer and promoter of FS-100.

Sorry for your troubles....

Ned

I second Ned, as a reviewer and user, I've found this product to be so worthy of my support, well, you guys will see how fanatical I am about the FS-100 very soon. In fact, after the 3.0 firmware update, I'm not seeing any benifit to the CinePorter, except for larger drive space. But I rarely fill up my FS-100 totally.

Here goes one more sad story:

- I bouhgt not one, but 2 Citidisks HD 120Gb. After 3 firmware updates I can finally record .mov and .avi. I can even see my footage in Final Cut and Canopus!!!

But all files have only 2 Gb and are 2min 16" long,. and I would mind that if there was a real seamless transition as Citidisk claims, but it doens´t happens: there is always a dropout frame problem right after beginning of the files... (only the first one is ok).
I trusted Citidisk and waited for a month for new firmwares, now I have to start shooting and I hope they will give me my money back. Tell you more about it later.

At least with the FS-100 in FCP it will span your clips so you get it all as one long clip, not chopped up into a bunch of tiny segments. Not to mention all the features it gives you that you don't get with the Citidisk. I've never used a Citidisk, but the posts for it are not too favorable.

Anyone actually using one and happy with it? I'd like to hear a happy Citidisk story for a change.

The Citidisk and the FS-100 remind me of a little car that gets awesome gas mileage but if you hit something you are screwed. The P2 cards are like a tank, horrible gas mileage but boy that thing can roll through a wall or over other cars.

Drew, very bad analogy. FS-100 is a tank, does things P2 can't, and is the only solution that works for my documentary. Without the FS-100, the HVX200 would be a totally worthless camera to me. P2 cards are not bullet proof. Durable, but not bullet proof. So, what's the vulnerability of the FS-100? So far as I've used it, none. I've dropped it, got it wet, got it muddy, dust up the wazoo, run it in south Louisiana's worst heat and humidity, used it in the rain, we've already had some pretty cold mornings I used it, it hasn't died yet. So, it's a tank, proven in real world use.

P2 cards just don't hold enough footage for some situations, period...

Plus, you can't do snap shots with P2 cards, you're super limited in your time lapse settings, will always have to wait for FCP to re-wrap the MXF data, can't do nearly as much pre-record cache as the FS-100, can't record Raw DV, don't have as many playback options, etc, etc, etc.

So with the FS-100, my HVX can do things it couldn't without the FS-100. Not to mention how freakin' durable this thing is PROVEN to be in very adverse environments. The FS-100 is a tank, and I have already proven it in the real world.

The CitiDisk just wimps...

I'm glad the FS-100 has been so durable for you. But for the stuff I do I would much rather have a solid state card than a spinning hard drive. But for the application that your using the camera for seems to be working well with the FS-100.

I would think the P2 cards you hold up to more abuse than a FS-100 would any day of the week.

Bouncing boats, being dropped more than once, rain, dust, heat, come on down and shoot with me, I'll show you how durable this puppy is. Way more than you seem willing to believe. But it is. I abuse the hell out of this thing, and never had a problem.

I was going to buy the FS100 next monday but 2 guys posted that the FS100 will not playback thru the component, that is a major flaw for my workflow, trying to monitor to a component monitor.

Best advice, wait for the Cineporter, at least you will have a super P2 card.

Focus info guys are not very helpfull either, I have to rely on this forum to get the information that I was looking for, they gave me only one part of the info.

I'm not a user, neither have experience using the FS100, but for me looks like the FS100 sulfill a very narrow segment of users, the ones that doesn't need a lot of functions missing on the FS100 v2.0 or v3.0. _ looks like a Citidisk with more functions, that's it.

For me it's a no brainer, not FS100 on my workflow.

My 5 cents
