Apple Monitor or Dell Monitor????

I've read some good things about the Samsung 244T 24" monitor (better color fidelity than Dell or Apple, no ghosting). Anybody here have first hand experience with this monitor?

The old monitor chestnut

Ok I realize you guys are getting tired of monitor questions but...

Can someone just lay out for me why a Panasonic 26" HD monitor would be better than say an apple or dell display. What makes the Panasonic professional and the others not?

I know you can calibrate the 26" to bars and there is HD SDI built in rather than needing an adapter, but other than that isn't it just another LCD panel like the apple and Dell? Why isn't the image quality the same?

go with the panasonic pro lcd monitors. They are VIDEO monitors with all the inputs you need, plus very accurate colors and Waveform built in.

Yes that is what people keep saying they are "video" monitors but I don't know what that means. If it were a CRT vs. LCD thing I would understand. Are their LCD panels that much better than an apple or a dell. Aside from the extra do-dads (sdi, waveforms, etc.) is there a QUALITY difference in terms of the image that shows up on the screen?

Specific example:

Panasonic 26" connected to HD capture card vs. Apple cinema connected to HD capture card via HDlink.

A 'video' monitor vs a 'computer' monitor don't mean a whole lot. Panasonic has two LCD panels which are specially designed to replicate the response of a CRT (colorspace, gamma response etc) but other than that the distinction doesn't really exist.

That said, monitoring video on the Dell's has been known to produce artifacts that don't exist in the original footage. I believe it's from the overdrive the LCDs use to achieve a faster response time and limit ghosting. Unfortunately, this causes both the color to be innacurate every other frame and it causes sparkling artifacts in moving footage. So they're not great for monitoring video like you would use a CRT (ie poor for color correction) but are plenty fine for editing etc.

I have (2) 23" inch Appel Cinema Displays, and I will tell you, my color is extremely close from display to HDTV. I know, my colors are going to be close. with my apple, and that is why I ponied up the cash. Worth it. I have been reading about way to make an Apple Cinema Display as a Field monitor. Cant remember where the thread is.

Dell and Apple do use the same LCD panels. It comes down to connectivity needs and looks after that.

Are you looking for a production monitor or a computer monitor? One you use on set, one you use with your computer.

The Panny production monitor has all the imputs and outputs you need, including component from your HVX. It can run on 12VDC from a block battery or battery belt, if no AC power is available. It is more rugged for on-set use. It has a blue only option for color bar calibration. It has a built in wave form monitor.
