3D from 2D Photo

Holy. That is AWESOME. Right off the bat I can already come up with 1001 uses for that. I think that is going to be VERY huge within the world of Digital Design and motion graphics.

Old new, But thanks for posting PK.

It has limitations, it can on ly use texture that exists in the orignal image, and the 3d roations are very limited.

Plus I really do not think its full auto (as a programmer, I know they must have had some *nudges* here and there :)

thats pretty cool.

Could it be used in video frame by frame to do some rip off bullet time?

I've seen a program like this but it doesn't work the same. I want this NOW if it's as automatic as they claim.

The other program had a few steps to achieve the same thing, where you'd desognate lines and then the program did the rest. I'll look into it.

It seems to have some internal optical flow thing going on that reduces texture stretching which is nice. I'd also be interested to see just how 'automagic' it is.
I can still see a need to define at least lines that are planar for it to avoid
geometry inversions and the like.

I do these camera projections, photogrammetry and 'pan and tile' work
all the time... Looks like we have some fun code coming next siggraph...

Interestingly, today is the release day for the theatrical 3D version of "Nightmare Before Christmas." 2D to 3D conversion techniques are coming along nicely, and it should be interesting to see how well the conversion of "Nightmare" turns out!

I found the program but can't get it to work.

google: Automatic Photo pop-up

It's freeware.
