DVXUser Photography Challenge: Round 10 - The Big One
What is it?
As filmmakers, especially DVXUsers we are used to conveying stories at 24 frames per second. Still photography reminds us that an entire story, lifetime, emotion, or event can be captured, told, and conveyed within a single frame. The purpose of these weekly challenges is to encourage the members of DVXUser to:
1. Shoot a photography within the contest period
2. Use photography skills such as lighting, composition, and framing to improve their filmmaking skills
3. To promote a sense of community through peer critique
4. To win prizes and the respect of your peers
How Does It Work?
Very simple. You read the subject for this event and submit a still image taken during the contest period that conforms to the topic. Your image can be taken with any CAMERA device... Cell phone, DVX, point and shoot camera, film camera, D-SLR, it doesn't matter.
For the round 10 celebration we are pulling out all the stops possible. Here are the details:
Topic: Beauty
Details: You are to take and submit a titled image of beauty. Your submission must be two fold... The first image should be either a RAW or JPEG image right out of camera with no adjustments done. The second image should be your submission after it has gone through post processing. In order to enter this contest you MUST submit two images. This is not two images on one canvas... two images, two files... just two
Submission & Voting Time Line:
You have 2 weeks to complete this submission process. All entries are due by November 5th at 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time. Upload instructions will be posted on 10.30.06. Voting will begin on November 3rd and continue for 5 days with a downloadable Excel spreadsheet.
Ownership:
You retain all ownership of material.
Prizes:
1st Place Prize: A Wacom Tablet donated by Matt Grunau, our resident Adobe Demigod
2nd Place Prize: A point and shoot digital camera donated by Jeremy Ordan (it will be around $100-$150, c'mon, this is coming out of my own pocket)
3rd Place Prize: Choice of 2 gig SD or 2 gig CF memory card by Jeremy Ordan
We will also have a special administrator vote for best DVX Still image (same dual submission rules apply) This vote will be conducted by the Admins who have been helping me run these weekly contests for a special prize donated by the admins that relates to your DVX.
Other misc. information:
1. You may submit up to 3 entries. If you submit more than 1 image they all must be SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT (no three images of the same sunset... no three images of a sunset)
2. If you wait until the deadline and something is missing then it will not be considered for submission
3. When you submit your original image if you crop everything away in the final submission that is fine... the original image must be the original unaltered right out of the camera image.
4. If you are submitting an image right out of the camera and there are no changes between the original and the one you are submitting, then do you still need to submit two images? YES!
I think that covers everything, but if you have any questions please ask them in the thread.
Thank you to Matt Grunau for his very generous donation... Thank you to Jarred Land for faciliating this event. Thank you to Barry_S for the help with the voting (he doesn't know this yet), and finally, thank you to the admins who have helped me continue to run these challenges.
And here we go...
