Storyboarding a music video!

I'm in the early stages of preproduction for a music video. I'll be directing it. I have been getting some templates to work on but would like to know of any helpful advice regarding the format.

Q. Is it easier just to write the lyrics of the song along the storyboard and call the shots? Should I just do a timecode related to the song instead since there is no dialogue?

Just wondering what people around here have been finding easier to do!

Thanks for any help!

I, personally, would use an AV script with storyboards. This way you could line up the lyrics with the shot. Thats just me though, Ive never made a music video.

whatever works the best for you.

play around with the storyboard. maybe do one with second references and another with lyrics.

questions like this are hard to answer begins it depends from person to person.

does that make sense?

do it if you going to do a narrative completely set to the song.

then do it as if you were shooting different performances then weave the two in editing but story board seperately. its worked on many projects i have worked on. from rap - to rock.

Yes! It does make sense. I'm just a little overwhelmed with the notion of mapping every shot. I just have to check every location and maybe take some pictures before I can really do any serious drawing. Thanks for the help!

I've been working with music videos for 3 years. The most important thing to do is connect with the emotion of the song. The video needs to be an extent of that feeling.
You don't have to copy onto screen what they are saying in the lurics. That's always a beginners mistake. You need to paint out the first picture that comes to your mind. if you se a forest with a sofa in it, then start with that and work around the concept.
