Sony VAIO VGC-RC310G

I was just at the local Best Buy, and saw a Sony computer with a Blue Ray reader/writer. Maybe I'm behind the times, but this is the first time I've seen a computer with this feature.

The computer features:

300gb hhd
Nvidia GeForce 7600 gt graphics card
Intel pentium D 3.20GHz1
2 gigs of DDR2 memory

Cost: $2249.00

I own an HVX200 and this computer has me excited. It seems like an excellent way to finally be able to archive footage. And with the PS3 coming out next month, I'll be able to play back that footage in HD as well!

Couple questions:

1. Does anyone know if the Nvidia geforce 7600 is a decent card for high-def video editing? Does it support dual monitors?

2. What's generally better: Intel core duo processors or Intel pentium D processor?

3. Since this computer features a Blu-ray reader/writer, I should be able to burn 1080p24 HVX footage without any hitches, correct?

Thanks.

Pentium D is not near as good as core duo or core 2 duo. Period. That is first. You need to be looking at one of the latter.

The 7600 should support dual monitors, I will double check though. Depending on your NLE of choice the graphics card may not matter. Edius, for example, does not take advantage of the graphics card. In that case, you would just want whatever graphics card that has dual monitor outputs. Unless of course you were going to be using graphics intensive programs for special fx, like after fx, for example.

Blu-Ray, if the comp. indeed writes blu-ray as well, the main benefit you would find from that would be the ability to archive larger amounts of footage on it. I don't think you will find much of a demand for a final product output on blu-ray though.

I think you can find a much better system for the same, or a similar price than the one you mentioned above. Blu-ray burner should not be a top priority, in my opinion, to be honest.

thats expensive for no Core 2 Duo. thats the first thing you would want to look for like already said. The 7600 can support dual monitors, but i dont know if the desktop version does specifically or not, meaning if it has the outputs. My iMac 24" has a 7600 GT that supports dual display no problem, and edits HD and works with Motion in HD 1080p as well perfectly.

Yes you should be able to burn it no problem , and should play back on blu ray players just fine
