Is it possible to run fcp 5.1.2 and logic pro 7 on the same (dual 2 ghz G5) machine and somehow sync them? Or do I have to use two g5's and sync via timecode etc?

It should at least be possible to sync soundtrack and Logic. I've done this with cubase through the IAC bus. As (AFAIK - never tried...) FCP has no midi support My guess is that is hard.

I've personally found it a bit cumbersome and have gotten used to exporting OMF's from FCP and do the final audio in Cubase.

I do all my final audio in SoundTrack Pro. Since it's gone "Pro" it's become very powerful. All of Apple's Pro Apps will run together on the same machine just fine. You'd want to use AIFF files going back and forth from FCP to Logic. Time code is what you'd use to sync them. I'm not sure, but I think Logic will recognzie FCP's scoring markers, too. But I'd look into SoundTrack Pro, it's the most overlooked app in the suite. For film and video sound work, you won't need anything else, unless you're doing your own music compositions (like I do, and I still use STP).
