Color correction before or after fine cut

Hi,

I'm wondering what you guys normally do. Do you adjust colors after editing the whole project?
And what if I want to use After Effects for color correction, may I import the whole project into AE and start adjusting? Or do I need import, correct and export one clip at a time?

What's your standard procedure? :)

Thanks in advance.

This one is tricky. guess it depends on what you want to do with colour correction. If you're using it to make everythingl look the same then I would suggest doing it throughout the editing process... although it depends on how much correction is necessary (render time etc). If on the other hand you want to give the whole film a certain colour wash or tint or something then you should do it once you're completely done with the editing. unless the wash is only applied on parts of the movie.

messing with the colour after editing is done can be tricky if you have a lot of cuts from different cameras because you may have to treat very small fragments of the movie indivudually. easier to make them all look the same first and then wash after

so, to sum up (this is what I do anyway)

1. make everything look approxomately the same
2. edit
3. wash

Last because it bogs down the system mainly. Why waste processing power and time on stuff that may not make the final cut?

I concur with Shooter, but also because of this:

Why color correct something you're not going to use?

I know a few editors that do some temp color correction just to make sure things are going to flow and feel right and match, but generally don't spend much time on it.

Do your offline edit, get it tight, THEN do your online tasks.
