13.5 hour battery for the dvx

hmmmmm...

nimh's are pretty safe, safer than li-ions

your get 6 AA and put them in a series. that's one 'block'
you the add on more blocks in parallel.. up too what ever you desire

one block will give you 2.2 hours operation

six blocks will give you 13 hours.

it's modular. you can add and subtract what ever you need.

Enjoy the raw power Jason! Get a few more of them, and you can rig your car to go on electric power!

Hey jenningsp, whatever turns you on :-) Just do not swallow them, as Jarred printed on his batteries " Do not put in mouth. Or you will die"

One AA rechargeable here cost BND4.00 (i.e. USD2.50). 6 pieces is 15 bucks. 6 of that will be 90 bucks. Hmmm its definitely cheaper. But with all the parts you need and time spent doing creating the rig, I am no so sure if it is worth it all. And its not easy soldering lead to a battery terminals. And plus too bulky. Not something that would be of interest at the end of the day for most people.

But then again, this thread is going on and on....

i thought of the whole soldering onto the battery. you could either use a 6 AA battery holder thingy from an electronics store or you could use drops of super glue.
it would work

If you want a BIG, long lasting battery, you might as well just buy a starved electrolyte lead-acid battery belt. Bescor has them ready-made for under U$100.00 including a charger; and that's for a 12V/14.4Ah one (that's almost 50% more Wh than your 36 x AA "idea".)
All you then need is an inexpensive voltage converter that takes it down to 7.2V.

I'd not want to lug this beast though...nor one made of 36 AAs! :)

ARgh argh arrghh.
You're charger rocks, by the way.
I didn't know dolgin had a presence on this board

Jason
It sounds more like shhhh...
Feel free to ask here or PM if have any questions on the charger

basically it's a good idea. BUT I have to agree with GenJerDan & Vidled that there must be a miscalculation. Battery life is measured by Ampere hour (or milliampere hour in our case). A 1000mAh battery (no matter what voltage) can theoretically deliver 1000mA for a duration of 1 hour irrelevant of what type (L-ion, Ni-Mh, Ni-cd) it is. So I cannot understand how can a 2700mAh battery last longer than a 5400mAh. If you want to build a 15000mah battery you have to buy 36 rechargeable AA batteries 2500mAh. Divide them in groups of 6 batteries in each group. Then you'll have 6 groups of 6 batteries each. Buy 6 battery holders (that hold 6 batteries) and connect the battery holders in parallel. CAUTION !!!! THIS BATTERY CAN SUPPLY ENOUGH CURRENT TO GRILL YOUR BELOVED CAMERA AND EVEN HOUSE IF A MISHAP OCCURS. Another thing is that your charger might blow up due such a high capacity battery. I'd rather have three 5000mAh batteries than one of 15000mAh. Question: Have you considered the bulkiness of such battery?
My conclusion? Stick to the 5400 mAh Batteries and you'll never regret it. I cannot imagine a case in point where you might need 15hours of continuous use without affording three to five seconds to replace a drained battery.

Wise words. One more comment on the NiMh chemistry in general. You absolutely cannot use a charger that is not specificly designed for this chemistry. The technical challenge is there is no way to accurately know when the NiMH cell is fully charged. If it is overcharged, it is damaged, its service life is greatly shortened. The charger needs to be able to read the temperature of the pack, and by monitoring the temperature rise to make a "stop charge" decision. Only high end smart chargers (Anton Bauer) do this properly, all others simple Ni-MH chargers cut corners. This is one of the main reasons why NiMH never became as popular as Li-Ion (and lower charge density off course)
