You know? I remember bits and pieces of this movie and from what I could remember it scared the shiet out of me. Can anyone tell me if this is worth buying on DVD? The last time I saw it was about age ten, when I really shouldn't have been watching it.

THe scene I remember the most is this ... monster... bursting through a wall to get someone. Is this accurate?

Sure it is worth buying. Prince Of Darkness is a masterpiece.

kholi, how can you think that you know something about horror genre or judge about horror films on the fest, if you didn't see PoD?

You should stop reviewing shorts and delete all of your post.

I love this movie. Donald Pleasence is freaking awesome in it. The whole movie has this great, depressing atmosphere about it. It's dark, the way horror should be.

It's pretty good. Loved Alice Cooper's little part in it. :)

The Thing just came out on HD DVD...drool.

Huh. I guess you missed the part at the top where I said I watched it but just can't seem to recall it.

Thanks for the info. Ordering tomorrows.

Is it just me or is the whole build-up of the "swirling cannister" breaking free kinda anti-climactic. I also remember the dialogue being silly or pretentious.

For me, this movie is pretty much where Carpenter "jumped the shark."

Yeah, but I liked the mirror sequence at the end. The liberation of the swirling canister of evil was a bit of a dud, but the movie in general has a great atmosphere of dread.

It was a nice movie, considering it has it scary moments, where almost none of the modern horror movies seem to have anything besides what are like sudden volume-control problems.

Nicely executed, with good acting. Not excellent, like "The excorcist" for example, but certainly very good. Good enough to warrant a DVD purchase.

Kholi, that wall-bursting scene is probably the scariest scene in the movie. I literally jumped outta my seat.

I LOVE J.C.-as many of you already know-but Prince of Darkness was disappointing to me. It's right around the time when I think he started picking really crappy material. J.C. is great at creating atmosphere, sustaining it, and just wowing you with the creepiness factor-but here the script is weak, the acting is often laugh out loud bad, and it just feels cheap (and now, dated as well).

I really love many of Carpenter's films and certainly he was a huge influence on me as to why I wanted to write horror and make horror movies, but I wish he would pick better material--> Ghosts of Mars, In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned, Prince of Darkness, They Live...
some good elements to each of the for sure, but overall not from the same guy who made Halloween or Escape from NY or The Thing or even Starman.
