"Center" extraction from DVCPROHD 1080i to MiniDV

I have some DVCPROHD 1080i footage and i need use some takes in a MiniDV project. I want to use After Effects for make a +/- center extraction and downconvert the material to MiniDV.

And of course I want to get the best possible quality

I believe this are the stepts I must follow:

1.- Create a 720 x 480 composition window in AE

2.- Import the 1080i footage and drop into the composition window

3.- rescale to the footage to the composition I need, and

4.- render using a DV codec

Do I need worry about the diferents fields orders? Or just the minidv codec make the conversion from the original DVCPROHD upper field order to MiniDV bottom?

Any other consideration about? Any MIniDV codec recomendation? I am considering use Canopus or Mainconcept...

Thanks

The steps are correct, you will only have a problem if the field order is different in DVCPRO. I can't remember for NTSC DV the field order (PAL user). I also suggest to render uncompressed and then export to a DV tape from an NLE.

Kalispera.....Thanks for the answer Steve.... the NTSC DV field order is lower first...the contrary than DVCPROHD that is upper first.....Do I need something about?...and thanks for the render uncompressed tip

Assuming your DVCPROHD is in 30i, the safest way to handle field order might be to deinterlace this in a pre-comp to 60p, then drop that into your 30i (29.97i) NTSC comp for re-interlacing in DV.

Also be careful of pixel aspect ratios.
If your HD precomp is is the appropriate pixel aspect ratio, then you will likely need to multiply the width by 1.11 (1/0.9) to stretch it out for DV's 0.9 pixel aspect ratio.
An alternative would be to have an "SD" precomp at 720x540 to crop the HD using square pixels, then finish by scaling that into a 720x480 render comp.

Good luck.
Have fun.

OK....I see Nick......In my case, the footage master I have is DVCPROHD (1920 x 1080) 60i from a HVX-200...so what need I do in this case.....

I understand the pixel aspect ratio; so no prob about.

thanks A LOT!!!!!
