After Effects comps having to RE-RENDER in Prem Pro 2

I have created one single AE project that has 8 or 9 comps in it. My problem is, when I import the comps into Premiere Pro 2 if I make ANY changes in After Effects to only one of the comps (or not even make any changes, just open a comp), ALL 8 or 9 comps that I have imported into Prem Pro need to be RE-RENDERED. I can understand why the one comp would need re-rendering, but why ALL of the comps in the project. Do I have some setting wrong?

Thanks for your help.

I guess that is the setting that I dont really understand (nesting)... I have never "nested" them. What exactly does that mean? I thought that was basically a comp within a comp. Maybe I'm wrong and that is why it is rendering ALL the comps. Is there anyway to "un-nest".

Thanks.

if one comp is contained within another, that is nesting. for instance if all nine of your comps share a common background, and you change that background, then obviously all of them will need re-rendering. if that's not the case, though, I can't really help. I know nothing about Premiere.

Right, that is what I was assuming nesting was. And no, they are not contained within each other or share ANY commonalities other than the fact that they reside in the same project bin. Hmmmmm... thanks for your help.

well, i would have assumed the same thing as dougspice. if theres no common element between them theres really no reason they should all rerender. i would break them out to individual projects if they dont have anything to do with each other anyway, and assume that doing so should solve the issue. you can just open the comp in a new project and save it as its own entity.

Thanks Neil. I figured I could do that. I had just talked with another After Effects user that told me that he had all his comps in one project, so that is why I did it that way. I appreciate your help.

yeah, it saves time to have them in one so that you dont have to open and close them to switch between them, and you can compare one to another within the project easily. but its dangerous as well because if your one project is corrupted or whatnot, you lose all your comps. generally i create them seperate and then make a another seperate project that groups them if i need to mesh them or compare and such.

No, you have done nothing wrong, thats the way Dynamic Link works today so what you are explaining is normal.

I hope that the next version of Dynamic Link allows you to change one comp and not have to re-render all comps that you have in your AE Project file.

yeah, i hardly ever even use dynamic link. the old copy and paste between the two apps works fine for the most part, but generally i finish each peice onits own and then import it into the other app to buld up any composition. its rare that you need to break from one app and go straight to the other for an adjustment or additional comping unless its a simple AE filter that PPRO will not run then its nice to be able to switch over and adjust it ..render out.. and switch back to your PPRO project. then its really nice to have the feature. but copy and paste for a clip(s) can do it pretty straightforward since you are not using Dynamic Link to mess with a whole comp or project being switched over to the other app. then once youve rendered it out, you can import the new file into the original app project bin(likely PPRO) and replace the footage on the timeline.
