Video Games Into Movies

Wolfenstein or Duke Nukem could be excelent films. Final Fantasy was decent, even though it was animated... and I never played the game. I did play Doom though, and really felt let down by the movie.

Halo is going to be a let down, as well. But, probably nothing as bad as we've seen in the past.

Silent Hill set the new benchmark for Video Game to Movie Adaptations. While it was still a pretty "meh" movie, it remained true to it's roots while deviating from the game to create a [mostly] different story.

Halo's base story has almost no appeal what-so-ever. The only thing that makes the Halo game appealing is when you sit down to play it, engaging you as part of the story, as "The General". That effect is hard to translate into a medium that is not hands-on.

A prime example of a game that could've been wonderful on screen is Resident Evil. Unfortunately, the person who wrote that failed to turn it into it's own Zombie Movie, instead tailoring to video game fans; sure way to make a movie suck.

Maybe Halo won't be as bad as I'm projecting, though.

I see what you mean, Kholi. I doubt Halo will be anywhere near amazing, but it looks like this director has promise.

I am going to do some more research on his work. I love how eerie Alive In Joburg was. It genuinely creeped me out... I guess the "realism" of the situation was handled well.

Alive in Joburg is a neat short film, that's for damned sure.

Direction, though, can't be the one to bare the burden. That script has to come off totally independent of the game, while still remaining true to the content; if that makes any sense.

I think it sounds like I have no faith in Video Game translations. I really want too, but Paul W.S. Anderson has totally ruined it all for me. I say it all the time: how can you screw up Resident Evil?

Thanks for the larger version. I couldn't find one.

And yeah, I'm a big fan of Resident Evil. Four is the best RE game out there, with two close at it's heels. I love them all, though. For someone to screw up such an easy concept... it really angered me.

I think Halo has a chance to stand out as an even better adaptation than Silent Hill was. I just probably have no faith.

Halo might be good. I hope they dont ruin it like the other game to movie adaptations that've been made.

Did anyone else hear about MGS becoming a movie?

When I first heard they were doing a Halo movie, all I could think was PLEASE GOD, DON'T LET UWE BOLL ANYWHERE NEAR THIS! ... Since that potential roadblock is out of the way, I'm still gonna hold out hope that this could be a fun movie.

There was no real Half Life movie in the works.

Halo was, and now it's not, apparently. I'm sure Jackson could pull the funding if he wanted too, but maybe they should let sleeping dogs lie.

So, now you can look forward to the horrid Castlevania movie, Tekken the movie, Dead or Alive the movie (Which had already wrapped, I thought), and Resident Evil 3.

A straight 0:4 ration of hit:miss.

Sigh.

Dead or Alive has been out in the UK. Hmm lets see:

Halo, Splinter Cell, Doom, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil,

Hollywood desperate or is it just me? I'm really not sure about halo being made and then it not. Could it just be a wild rumour or something? Otherwise I'll just have to go back to watching Halo Machinimas around my step dads every saturday for 3 hours....not cool.

I went to see the original Super Mario Bros. film (starring Bob Hoskins) in the theater. It remains the only movie I've ever walked out on. I just couldn't take it. :crybaby:

I walked out on Oceans 12...ALMOST. Worst film i seen in the cinema ever. That and Shark Tale i just really couldn't take it.

And Dead or Alive was alright i thought, give it a 6/10. Nothing really that appealing about it. Well thought out fights though. I guess its worth the watch, but its one of those films that i just wouldn't see a second time around if i had the choice.
