Looking for opinions on coolest effect

Wish I were banned.
In our "business" class we are doing video editing right now. It is the easiest thing I have ever done because video editing is already easy to me. We have a project where we need to make a video, and I'm looking for opinions on the coolest effect Vegas is capable of that will make people say, "wow."

This is probably a better job for after effects, but I don't have that.

Saturation adjust. You can capture a single brighter color, and play with it so it is the only color- the rest is black and white.

Yeah I knew that you could do that. I'm thinking about making some crazy title... Vegas doesn't pack much of an 'awe' factor.

what pto suggested is a possiblity (they call it the pleasantville effect) i thin because it appeared in the movie pleasantville. But vegas doesnt pack much punch as in ready made effects. If it did most of those would be....hmmm...READYMADE. But with a little imagination there are so many effects possible within vegas. When u start using orginality that way you can create unique effects. OK. Heres my ideas. Actually the color tech mentioned above was also maredly visible in SCHINDLERS LIST. More so because the whole movie was in black n white. But in several scenes the a little girl appears with red sweater. Only the sweater is red. No matter whenever she appears in the movie. I think it was a way of drawing attention to that one girl in a personalized way. Anyway you could make 12 or 15 of you walk on the street. You could animate a secondary color correction to make it look like someones clothes are changing color. Then you could also cause someone to touch something and what they are touching turns into black and white. I feel with vegas multi layered video and strenous masking you could pack a lot of punch into your video SpFX. Also remmember that most hollywood style effects that you see on the movies etc are rarely the result of the nle alone. They invariably use a combination of fx generators. 3d modeling software. particle generators etc and then finally marry the shots into one conglomerate whole. Compositing.

Hope you find some interesting stuff out yourself. Good luck.

I made a pretty cool title thing with Vegas...I'm at school right now so I can't post it up, but I'll show you once I get home.

Sounds pretty cool. Touching something and making it black and white sounds like some fun.

Look forward to seeing your title tjohara99. The video is going to be a really easy grade, I'm just looking to impress some of my friends in the class who don't believe that I put a lot of time into editing/movie stuff.

Nice tj, that's a sweet logo. I already have a logo like that though. Still gives interesting ideas for ones I can make in the future.

The video wall is pretty cool. I could have the same clip playing but at slightly different times in incrimental progression... I don't know how that would look though.

that is really cool. I'm kinda a rookie with vegas and i have made a startup logo...but your simplicity and quality blow mine away. I'm not saying it was easy...but it just looks some plain - which is a good thing...not bad

I've always gotten great feedback on the twin effect. Essentially you lock down your camera and film someone standing there. Then you film a second clip with the same person replying to the other person, but this time you have them standing on the other side of the frame. In Vegas you lay down the two clips and just do a mask so only half the frame is showing... This allows you to have the same person on the screen at the same time. Easiest effect in the world and people are always impressed by it. Just takes timing on the actors part.

Hi Jeremy,

Im currently working on the same type of scene in my short movie. But in mine they cross each other and examine each other as walking around each other in scrutiny. So they cross each other.

You might want to consider a locked-off green screen shot for that. It'll get pretty tricky keyframing a matte like that.

We just got it from the Horses Mouth. No Pun Intended. Really i was working on portable green screen boards carried by a crew member who will move along with the actor. The rest will probably be a garbage matte.

On second thought though what did u mean by "locked off" green screen shot Horse ? I was planning a porta green panel being moven along with the actor. I thought that would provide the means of effectively eliminating masking around the body during cross over of both twins. Whats your idea please ?

By locked off, I meant that the camera doesn't move at all during the shot. You could shoot the background without the actor in the shot. Shoot the actor playing both parts in front of a large greenscreen, then add them to the empty background. I'm intrigued by your idea, though. The only problem would be lighting the moving green screens evenly and consistantly.
