Paula, Agnus and Denise . . ah, my first loves. :love4:

Dude, you should totally get back into it! I have my AmigaONE with OS4 Beta running on it. The full commercial version should be out by year's end, along with new Amiga hardware boxes!!!

I'm in LA so come check it out sometime!
I've been out of that loop for so long... If it was possible to run Photoshop on that thing and FCP, I'd be all over it... Then again, I could probably get them to run if I sat down with it long enough... :)

Actually, I'm almost positive you can run Linux on the Amiga and I'm sure they have the GTK libraries ported to Amiga - if not, I suppose I could do it and share with the world... :) - in which case, the GIMP would be a very viable option...

And I probably WILL come check out what you've got one of these days... when the insanity around here calms down a little... I've got a shoot next weekend and I'm not sleeping much these days...

Guru Meditation Error - yeah! :)

You can definitely run Linux on the latest AmigaONE computers. In fact, that was the only operating system you could run when they first shipped since OS4 Beta hadn't yet surfaced.

Let me know when things quiet down a bit . . .

If not for Amiga going down the tubes I'd probably be editing on one now (or on a Mac running Amiga Cut Pro 2.0 or something). Amiga going out of business is what lead me to Mac. I used to do animation on Amiga. Ironically I never got back into animation.

I went from that to a Mac using Director and Premiere. (That would be for multimedia CD creation). Actually I believe I have an unopened copy of Hypercard around here somewhere too that I didn't get to use too much hypercard, someone should bring this back. I know there's still a big community for it somewhere.

Ahh.. I remember learning to edit with two 3/4" decks fed through an Amiga Video Toaster 2000 used for graphics down at the Atlanta public access station. At the time I thought it was awesome... sure beat the heck outta the two VHS decks I used at home! I mean, c'mon... frame accurate edits and the ability to scroll credits! ...not to mention all the awesome "Home Improvement" style transitions!

Never got my hands on the Toaster. I was just learning system basics and at the time it was a reasonable belief that someone would continue to push and update the VToaster and as a matter of fact someone was supposed to but I believe the deal fell through. So VToasting became absolete and honestly today it would simply be another editing suite probably in the $500 - $1000 range.

Well, it was Commodore that originally went under due to complete mismanagement. Amiga has gone through various hands since that dark day in April 1994. There is a great book about the rise and fall of Commodore.

Currently, Amiga, Inc. is attempting to revive the platform.

Newtek (the original makers of the Video Toaster on the Amiga) have indeed continued the VT on the PC Windows platform.

Wow -- didn't realize it was still around in any way. The last I used was 7 or 8 years ago... a VT4000 that had Lightwave 3D built in.

I actually have seen this package but I never made the connection to Amiga. That's cool to know. You never hear anything about it in a world dominated by FCP, Avid, and PPro and/or Vegas Video.

Yeah, I guess the new VT is pretty cool. I haven't used it personally. I was considering Newtek when I was buidling my editing suite a few years ago. But they don't (or didn't) support or plan on supporting 24P and all that. So I went with Avid and I'm very happy with it.

If Amiga makes the comeback I hope it does, I'd love to see some of these killer apps running on it.

Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion Entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here (baseline: Update #4).

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

Yeah, that 's cool! All those retro videos on YouTube!

I actually just sold the last of my classic Amigas. It was an A1200 Tower on steroids. I didn't really have any extra room to keep in hanging around. Plus, I have an AmigaONE tower that is backwards compatible. I'm about to install OS4 Final on it and geek around. :)

If only all those 3.5" floppies in my parents' basement would still load up. Stupid degeneration of media. All I want is to play Speedball and render my Enterprise Blows Up a Cow animation in Imagine again. Sigh.

Oh man, why'd you sell it??? That makes me so sad...

But seriously, I do want to stop by your place and check out the Amiga setup you have!

I don't think I ever played Speedball, but I might have. I remember Crystal Hammer the best cause of the soundtrack. For some reason I thought it was the coolest thing...

Yeah, I know. I was bummed too. But I had to due to space limitations. But it went to a good home! :)

Sure! I've gotta update the U-Boot firmware then install Amiga OS4 (Final) and it'll be good to go. I sold most of the software I had with my Classic Amiga but I kept some of it. Plus the guy who bought it I'm sure would let me have copies of whatever I need. I mean, a lot of that stuff has been long discontinued. But you can come check it all out - that'd be cool.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!!!!!!

The Amiga3000 is arguably the best designed computer that they ever released. Granted, the Amiga4000 was more powerful but they didn't push it far enough. Also, the Amiga3000 also had a rare tower version and an optional dual-boot with UNIX OS.

You should try to find a PowerPC accelerator card to run OS4. If you need any help with your new Miggy, me and my buddy (Chris) could help you out. :)
