Thank You For Smoking, good or bad?

I recently rented "Thank You For Smoking" and loved it, what does everyone think? I thought it very intersting how whenever anyone pro-smoking was, he was lit more yellow than the rest. William Macy, who played the Vermont (senator, i think) statesmen might be acting in a movie I'm working on in a few weeks.

Film discussion thread, seconded.

However... thumbs down on thank you for smoking. I did not not not not not like it. It just wasn't good to me. I thought yeah, okay, the politics of smoking and all of that, but I just don't care. When you're watching the movie... do you care about what's happening? No, not really.

i liked it just because i thought it was funny. It made me chuckle on more than a few occasions, and i thought most of the performances were really good

Did you notice that no one once smokes in the movie??

Yeah great movie loved it. But this should be in the film discusion thread.
I found that very odd that you don't see one person smoking int he movie. I thought it was pretty funny, i like the nicotine patchs part.

I liked the movie. It was funny, had good acting and told an interesting story. It almost made the smokers seem like the good guys. It was different and well done. Not something I'd buy but it's worth renting and watching on tv.

I loved the film.

"My mommy says cigarrettes kill"
"Oh? Is your mommy a doctor?"
"No"
"Oh! She must be a research scientist of some kind then!"
"No.."
"Well mommy doesn't sound like much of an expert on such matters then does she?"
/ HORRIFIED LOOK!

This movie was great. I expected a movie that was going to try and be too clever. But it was a really solid script and a really solid satire overall.

I didn't like how no one smoked a cigarette though. I mean it's cool to say and everything. But it took away from one of the more crucial turns in the movie, when he *spoiler* gets kidnapped and attacked with all the patches. Then when he wakes up they say "the fact that you were a smoker saved your life". I was like, huh? He's a smoker? Since when? I never saw him smoke! That made that moment feel less true.

Anyway, the rest of the movie was great. And, oh, that kid actor is a little creepy. Don't like his eyes. I have nightmares.

The book is one of the most hillarious things I have ever read. The movie was a little bit of a let down from the book, but this is to be expected. In my opinion it was a good film, solid acting, but there were so many details left out that I sort of felt robbed.

Is it a good film worth a watch? Yes. Will I buy it? Nope, already own the book.

I thought it was well acted and very funny.

That said, I got really irritated that no one in the film smoked. I understand why they did it but it pulled me out of the movie since it was so unrealistic. You know logically we should be seeing Nick light up every few minutes and all the Tobbacco COs smoking at the meeting.

I was really, really entertained by this movie when I saw it. Afterwards, however, it left me with sort of a hollow feeling. What is the moral message of the movie? The movie seems to genuinely think this guy is a hero. Why? What I at first assumed to be an ironic message turns out to be the bottom line. That was really disappointing to me.

for me the message was that words rule over all. It has nothing to do with right or wrong, it's all perception. OF COURSE smoking is bad for you, but we know that because we're told. It's just as easy to express otherwise though. Take nothing at face value and live life for yourself, people can convince you of anything.
