I don't know a thing about Columbia College, but LAFS has turned out a few really good film makers and they are in the right part of the world to help make the connections that any aspiring film maker needs to succeed.

Can't speak to LAFS, but I've known several people here in Chicago that are or were in the Columbia program and all have good things to say. In LA, you might make more connections, but also run the risk of being lost in a sea of competition. Here in Chi-town, you might not be able to make as many connections, but have a better chance of actually getting to know and work with those connections you do make.

i just looked up columbia college which is in LA. I assumed you meant columbia univerity in New York :)

If you could afford it and was accepted, Columbia university is incredibly prestigeous and is known for its acting and directing programs among other things.

I have no idea what Columbia college is lol sry

Columbia, hands down.
I went there and currently I'm there a lot because the theater department is helping me with my current project. If you're in Chicago and asking should you stay here or go to LA, you might as well stay here. Columbia College is a "state of the art" facility. They are up to date shooting with Z1s (or maybe that was an FX1) and they still teach old school film as a basis. The focus seems to be overall production as things have changed since I went there 10 long years ago. (DV was just starting and the web was just becoming hot).

Not to mention they've got older G4s and the current G5s. I don't know if they have any Intell Apples but I doubt it. I do remember when the original Mac Clones where out they had tons of "Power Computing" Mac Clones. Either way the teachers know their business, the equipment is quality and they're really about business and getting it done. But if you're still in a quandry about things you can always go to Columbia College LA right? Either way I would suggest though taking your basic classes elsewhere and taking your film concentration at Columbia.

I think he means Columbia College here in Chicago (CCC) which owns (or at least used to) Columbia College in LA. I believe he means one of these two places, which are known as "film schools." Originally CCC was known as an arts and entertainment college but now it seems to be mostly known for film, video and it's fiction writing program which is even kicking Harvard's butt. They do computer animation and graphic arts there too.
