Shake Talk in an AE forum

Yeah, I'm here to break the rules and talk about Shake. I just found out a few days that the price dropped, so I instantly had to buy a Mac and Shake. I am wondering how many people on here are using the program? I haven't used it since it was on Windows (version 2.5), and I was in school, so I didn't have to fork out the $10k to use it. I wonder if they will start a forum on here for Shake, now that many more users (especially newbies) will be getting their hands on the software.

If they don't add a Shake forum, it would be nice if they changed this one to "Compositing".

So are there any Shake users out there?

I use Shake as my main application. We should probably switch this forum to
compositing. 95% of the techniques apply to any compositing app.

There are some things that are After Effects specific, as there are things that are Shake specific. Maybe have a Shake and AE (hell we could include Combusion & Digital Fusion if the need ever arises) sub formns in a Compositing main forum. Or, maybe there is a way to color or flag posts pertaining to each program to keep things a little less confusing.

But, a lot could be gained from both.

ps. Wow, Shake is mad expensive. Youch!

Yeah, we have a 3D software board, having this be a composting software board would make a lot of sense. The other thing is that a lot of us use many apps to get these jobs done (I use AE, Shake, Silhouette, Mokey, Motion w/Conduit just to name a few comp related apps). Having one place to exchange techniques ideas and questions on compositing would be great.

If this were a dedicated visual effects forum, maybe seperate boards per app would make sense, but the traffic here probably wouldn't support that.

Long story short .... here's a second vote to opening this board up to compositing apps in general.

What price did you see?
The price used to be in the thousands of $$$$ (still is for Linux actually) but Shake for OSX is $500 retail and the education price is $250.

I read it was 4 grand, and now I can't find the site. Or, that was the one for Linux.

hmm.

500 retail is a damn good price.

Very good price :) Thats why I got it.
Before the price drop it was $3000. If they would've offered a $3000 Windows version, I would've bought it (but they didn't offer ANY windows versions). Then when they dropped it to $500, I realized I can get a new computer and the software for the price I would've paid to run Shake on my Windows machine. So it just made sense to me. I look at it as I got a free computer out of the deal. (maybe I have my priorities all messed up).

Nope. You did exactly what Apple intended for you to do. :D

Shake on a 24" iMac costs less than the old Shake, AND the combo is more powerful than what the folks that used shake to comp stuff for LOTR had on thier desks.

Enjoy.

well I think until someone changes the name, we will all accept that there may be non-AE threads i think most of the people in here are interested in all compositing not just AE.. so do we really need to put our love into words? if it gets changed it does... no stress needed!
