who is your best friend

As you know I produced with a friend 20 minutes pilot for TV in the last 2
weeks and all the shooting where made inside one of our friends pub during
the last 2 days ,

the decision that was made by producers :-) is to shoot all the scenes with
quit awful ( sound wise) air-condition system and the bar refrigerators and
beer coolers working from 2 very important reasons . 1 we didn't have the
money for external air condition with the pipe and 2 I dint want that my
people who are coming on Friday and Saturday (about 60-70 people ) would
have to suffer drinking hot beer ( not enough that they had to drink the
local):-).

so - the shootings where grate and we finished about 95% of what we planned .
with only one shot that would have adr ( read about later) and that thanks
to one microphone only ( there were 2 like that on the set) .yes you are right , the sanken cs-3e . these small guys pulled out the dialog in tremendous way that left all my options deep down inside the bag , and I had few to check :-).

The 816 , 416 , the Neumann 81( friends ) , the Schoeps cmt5( that i got
from a friend ) and the 541 - not even one of these mics was close to get
the dialog out of the f .. noise, without ask the people rise their voices
what did very bad to their acting ( fresh ones and non actors).
so next time you ever consider mic for these kind applications you
probably get 1 like that .

by the way - we got some donation so at least Guinness drinkers where more
then satisfied, at least me who had a roll of fisherman( homeless) sitting
outside the bar trying to catch some one who will invite him to drink . I
did it in one take finishing the half liter of Guinness at ones after I caught
"the saker" - one take actor :-), the shot would be published on the web as
soon we will start editing so you can see it with your own yes and of
course hear the sanken . that was recorded by my booman and boomed by the
first camera assistant, so if it of mike a little it might be ill have to
adr my self :-))

so guys - when you see all these shinning German Schlongs - think about one
hard japanese chin -chin which help us in the hard days

the price :-)
self noise, if you work in extremely quit situation from above 6 feet with extremely low source ( f ,, mumbling actor)
and it doesnt like Guinness

6 feet?? you mean you can actually work this thing at 6 feet?!?!?! holy cr@p man... thats scary. oleg, is self noise ever enough of a problem for you to want to switch this mic out in your normal work?

Does it at least like Kilkenny then? :-)

I thought I had read almost all the threads about shotguns. But I somehow blended out the Sanken, because I never heard that brand name before and thought they're available in the USA only and nobody in Germany sells them.

I had narrowed the choices down to either the Neumann KMR81 or Schoeps CMIT 5u but now the Sanken CS-3 enters the field.

Can you say in which situations you would prefer which of the three?

in the desert or 20 miles from the road ill prefer the schoeps , so Tim that is the only places where there are some advantages to much quiet shotguns .
but in real life its about 1% of my work .
the cmit is a very good sounding mic but it doent do any good on urban street shotes whith normal noise around and sorry it does not have any benefit on hyper cardioid schoeps on interiors , so frankly , i dont see why should i buy one .
give a call to group3 or ambient, one of them are probably have it for sell or hire

So Oleg, when are we going to see some clips from your shoot? Will there be English subtitles for those of us who are not multilingual like yourself?

Thanks for sharing your experience

no , the script is in Hebrew , no subtitles planned for the moment , i promise in the time it would be edited ill throw few clips to the i tube .
you will be able to put as much as possible criticism about my performance as an actor ,of course any bad critics about my recording could be very painful for the critics :-)
it is a pilot and we still need to finish shooting ( another half day) and start looking for good editor , so be passion , it would come

"think about one nice jap which help us in the hard days"

Oleg,

I understand that english is not your first language so you sometimes misspell words so I hoping that the word "jap" is actually "chap" or something else. If not, I'd appreciate you editing that phrase even if it has the word "nice" in front of it.

If it was meant to refer to a person from Japan then it is like saying "nice Koon", or "nice Kike", etc. I'm certain you did not mean it in that way, but it is offensive to anybody of Japanese decent. It is a hold over from the 2nd World War and was intended to be insulting when used. Times have changed and so has our language.

And if it was just a misspelling of another word you might still change it because somebody else who is not familiar with you might take it in the wrong way.

I always appreciate your advice about sound.

Kelly, I think your post is a bit strong. For someone with no knowledge of such cultural histories, "Jap" would seem a perfectly sensible abbreviation, no? It is not like he is carelessly using a word which is entirely "made up" to be offensive (the ones you mentioned)- it is an innocent abbreviation. Don't be so quick to jump. Just politely note to him that it may have connotations that he isn't aware of, which MAY offend someone.

I think you need to re-read the post. What you are suggesting is what I said in a respectful, non-accusing tone, making allowances for a difference in language.

I also ended by telling him that I appreciated his great advice.

I had no intention of taking this any further. However, suggesting that some "May" be offended by the term "Jap" is like suggesting somebody "May" be offended by the term "Koon", "Spic" or "Wetback."

If you don't want to take my word for it, ask my wife and my Japanese In-Laws who spent the war in an internment camp in California even though they were American citizens.

woah guys, oleg wasnt even talking about a person here. lets keep the personal issues at home, shall we? So, whats the best mic for under $100? :)

ok they moderate me - you won - i gone - next time you are on your own
see ya - probably not

By the way read the new lines even better then the privius - or you have something with sexual harassment in the bush as well :-)

O **** they killed Georgie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
