'Save as type' for H.264 from Vegas?

Hi All,

When rendering from Sony Vegas (6.0d), what 'Save as type' should be used to render using H.264. I'm asking this so I can render out to QuickTime for the "Horrorfest".

Unfortunatly, for some reason Vegas and the H.264 codec don't get along as of this moment. What you can do however, is render out the film as a different .mov codec, I usually use Mojpg A, and then open that file in Quicktime pro, then render it as an H.264.
 
Thank you. In Vegas, there is a 'Save as type' QuickTime 6 (.mov) codec, I believe? Would that work? And I tried opening my project (.AVI) in QT7 Pro and tried to change the settings and QT froze.

Apple appears to have bolloxed up its H.264 codec so it can't work with Vegas (and probably anything except QT Pro), so you can't render a QUICKTIME H.264.

But you can render an H.264 file as an MP4 using the Sony or MainConcept AVC formats.

Thanks. I thought that the 'Internet' version of the video had to be QuickTime for "Horrorfest"? Or... does it just need to be compressed? Should I ask Jarred if an MP4 is acceptable?

And if I can use the MainConcept AVC, do you have a recommendation for the settings to get a 6 minute AVI under 50MB in good quality?

I don't do all that much for the web, and when I do, I use WMV, so I'm not exactly sure.

I also don't know exactly what the specs for Horrorfest are. Jarred could shed some light on that.
 
Update:

I'm having good luck rendering with the MainConcept AVC/AAC. It creates an .MP4.

When I try to set the Custom size to 400 X 225, the system changes it to 400 X 240?

I've imported my project into a 24p Widescreen and Cropped for 16 X 9.

What gives?
