Well I'll type anyway..

I'm 16 and at a college studying media. The course could even be finished by christmas because we are going to fast and, well good at It. ^_^. I basically need advice.
I want to start In the field of film and have made several script's that have been shot, trailers for random thing's etc. I want to start my first proper film. Nothing to big. Most probably a short. I got some advice of a relativly high ranked person and they said I should get as much experiance as I can In my craft. Etc.

I can rent out what I believe are older and higher quality DVX's at 24-48 hour's at a time from my college for £5 [$11-$12?] And I get the money back when I return the camera. So I want to start something. I really just don't know where to start. Also there Is this 48 hour film challenge In London soon. I live In south wales, roughly 250 miles away. Just could'nt do It last year. But maybe this year? I don't know.

But yeah, back to basics. If anyone has any advice on what they think I should do. Please let me know. critisize/help/whatever i dont really care as long as i get some sort of feedback =]

:dankk2: in advance...

Im 14, and let me tell you that its going to be tough...

But, get good sound before you get good video. No matter what you ever do.

And be prepared for all your shots, with lighting, motion shot equipment, sound, and grips for stuff.

And make sure you have a script before getting too far ahead of yourself.

Use and abuse the equipment while your at college.

It won't be there when your course ends (to use as a non-student)

No fair. Anyway, I'm in more or less the same boat as you are - 16, high school, wanting to start my first real project as soon as i get my exams out of the way in the couple of weeks. So far all i've been doing are run and gun shoots, and i really want to take the time to plan and conceptualise something that will turn out looking extremely good and professional.

how i'm going about doing this is i'll be renting a lighting kit and a sound kit, and i'm trying to garner as much help as possible. Also plan plan and plan again. Do you have a budget? It will really help the production value if you get your hands on a lighting kit and a sound kit as well. Try to storyboard and previsualise everything, because once you're actually shooting it, it'll get really hectic and you tend to forget stuff, etc

noooooooo, not another media student *roll eyes*

just kiddin ;)

The only Advice I can give is there is two things:

(a) Doing something becuase of the love of it

(b) Doing something because it brings food on your plate, and a roof over your head.

Now (a) usually never helps you with (b) unless your very lucky.

Think like an Engineer and always have a backup plan.
