Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut

Has anyone seen this yet? Amazon says it comes out on Nov. 28th and you can bet your buttons I'm getting it. There appears to be a lot of footage put back in, as well as some special features on the restoration and a full-length commentary with Donner and Manckiewicz.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Superman 2 was my favourite from the series... I'll definetly check it out... (Didn't like the "forget everything kiss", however :) )

they're also re-releasing the original superman in a special edition dvd, with tons of special features. i'll be picking up both

even more special than the super special edition they already put out?

movie studios should let you trade in your "not so special" anymore editions for their new "improved super super special" edition dvds... ahem, mr. lucas....

totally agree. i think the new superman dvd will be 2 discs.. i may be mistaken about the last part, but i know they're re releasing the movie with a bunch of special features.

The Richard Donner cut of Superman II isn't just a "special edition" with a few more extras. It's not like an "extended director's cut."

It promises to be a whole different movie from the Richard Lester theatrical release -- and almost guaranteed to be a BETTER movie. This is something to be excited about.

Actually, it's gonna be FOUR discs for the first one.

They're releasing them all in a super-duper 14 disc box set with The Donner cut and Superman Returns as well.

LOOKS SICK!!!

for how much though? i dont want 3 and 4, i want the good movies.

I think it's an MSRP of $99.99.....So, when it comes out it will probably be around 75-80 bucks.

For 14 discs, that a steal. If you were to but them separately at 25 bucks a pop, it'd be more than the box set, so it's like you're getting Superman Returns, 3 and 4, for free and all the extras.

The box set is the way to go, unless of course you just want the first one.

I have the '78 movie. I'll buy the Donner cut of II. I don't want III or IV. Returns? Maybe. But I don't have a great jones for it at the moment. This box set -- not for me.

I watched the Donner cut last night on HD-DVD. It's definitely worth watching. It shows its age in places, but it's a a really unusual project.

The most interesting change is the addition of Marlon Brando. Apparently Donner filmed all of Brando's scenes, but the studio had them cut from II to save money! Instead of paying Brando's fee, they substituted Superman's mother. The studio dropped the ball on that one. Brando's got a lot of screen time here (albeit as a glowing disembodied holographic head).

I've heard most of Donner's commentary. At times it's a little off-putting. As a general rule, everything that was his idea was authentic and believeable and "true to the character," whilst everything the other director did was crap. But I guess that's Hollywood. :cheesy:
