Complex Timelapse (need help)

Let me describe the shot to you. Its going to be of a high school football game. I am going to start on the stars, than Pan down to the game being played. the hard part is while the panning is taking place, I need the football game to be a timelapse.

Now I have no idea how to do this. I guess i could just Pan the tripod little be little every couple minutes, but I want this to be completely smooth, and don't think that would be attainable if I did that. Is there a way to maybe smooth it out in afx?

And if not, I havn't really read into remote tripods, but do they have a setting where you can say how long you want the pan to be?

Any help on this would be really great.

the easiest way is to nudge the tripod manually over a period of time, then speed that up and then smooth it with deshaker in virtual dub. You only need to correct the vertical panning, and do the smoothing after you speed it up otherwise it doesn't smooth as well... might look good with motion blur applied after smoothing, then speed it up some more. I've done this just keeping a cloud in the frame and it works very well. You do lose a littel res through the deshaking however, and you'll get edge artifacts you may need to crop.

Or an expensive option: one of those rigs that is made for moving timelapse shots. I don't have a link for this but they used it in Requiem for a Dream, and I'm sure they used it in a lot of other movies as well.

^^^I knew someone had to make one, but I can't seem to find a link to it. And ASG, I did some test runs with that plan and was suprised how great that program is.

If some one could point out a link to one of these motorized rigs, that would be awsome.
