favorite fight film...

By fight film you mean like an action fight film ala' Karate Kid, Rocky etc? or favorite fight...cuz my vote would be to "They Live"

Fight Club might be an obvious choice. However, The Big Brawl with Jackie Chan and Mako wins out for me. But, one of my favorite fight scenes is in Rob Roy with Liam Neeson. The final fight was a great display of different sword techniques and strategies.

LOL, I actually pulled my high school girlfriend into this movie at the multiplex just to show her that fight before we went on to see some chick flick or something. Most hilarious battle of all time.

Greatest Fight EVER! Kieth David is still kick ass too. The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I love the first fight scene in Blade, inside the meat works.
Starts with guns, moves to hand to hand, then swords and knives.
In regard to the lead; as the poor guy is crawling along a blood soaked floor while being kicked and bashed by a room full of blood drenched vampires, he stops at the boot of the hero - BLADE - the camera pans up to reveal him in all his leather clad, weapon carrying glory. A classic hero entry.

For me, it would have to be Raging Bull. Scorsese visuals were remarkable and DeNiro nailed the portrayal of Jake LaMotta...not an easy man to like.

Really appreciate the imput guys but why do you like the leads in these films...what is it about them that appeals to you??? What is it about them that makes you relate to them or want to cheer for them?

Well, I don't particularly like the lead in Raging Bull. It's the story I like, about how he self destructs.

I like the fact that he wasn't particularly a good guy at first but when he learns what's happening with the Asian slave traders he decides to jump in and do something about it. I like characters who get caught up in things. Jackie Chan characters tend to be that way. Normal people who get caught up in extraordinary circumstances but just happen to have enough know-how (normally in the martial arts dept) to win the fight.

There's something about the Transporter and his rules and all that stuff and knowing when to break them even if you know it may not be the best for you but it's what you should do. There's a weird sort of morality to the character even though he's not only so far from being a bad guy.

I would love to see a Transporter III about maybe transporting something that turns out to be a terrorist weapon or something like that to really see him deal with the business of "no questions asked" transporting and of course taking on baddies in his own way. I also like the actor.

I think a good action hero has to be likeable. If he's too mean or too sensative you can risk losing your (generally conservative, mostly male) audience. The actor has to be able to convery all of this. Statham is great at conveying the few emotions action heroes convey. Segal's early characters were that way too.

Blade is another conflicted character that I love. He's a vampire that understands the threat vampires generally pose to humanity and is willing to fight that threat for many reasons. I know it's not a fight film but it's got the same elements.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li are normally upright heroes always poised to stand up for what's right and take on the forces of evil. That's what I love about the whole action genre.

In Rocky, it's easy, he's a likeable guy, the underdog with a once in a lifetime shot. He makes us all feel that if we want something bad enough we can achieve it.

Fat City - John Huston is a great return to directorial form - inspired and daring cinematography by Conrad Hall...and wonderful, nuanced work from Stacy Keach and Jeff Bridges as fighters in the crest and valley of their fight careers. It is a simple story about small time people, with simple dreams and not much skill or ability to achieve them. I love these characters simply because they are so far removed from the Rocky archtype. These guys will never get their title shot...
