Hey, I know very little 'bout websites and the bunch. Ive been wasting my Domain time , and would like to get my website up and running soon. I have the space to host it at my work but I guess what i need is a template.

I want the website to be blog style , and would like it to be editable by me or my partner from a Mac...i really have no clue. LOL....anyways heres a sample of what i want.

if it can be like that site, that would rock...anyone have a template?

I dont want this in jobs, because i would like to openly talk about this with everyone in case its unbarably simple to do, and maybe people can collaborate to help me?

Thanks alot, totally appreciate any help. :dankk2:

Yeah, wordpress is pretty decent blog software. Easy to install. But you can PM me if you want help. I've set those up in the past in just a few minutes.

Thanks i probably will PM you, im trying it by myself but im still confused a little bit, just need to put some more effort into, it, ive got to finish the Horror Fest movie first, then i can work on the website 100% til its done.

Thanks again, all this time and ive never seen that linky dink on the bottom. lol.

The easiest way to do this is a two-step process:

1. go to www.blogger.com and register as a new user
2. create a blog

it's free and extremely easy both to use and customize. And if you want to user your domain name you can either:

1. forward your domain to the blogger address
2. download the blogger architecture to your domain (it's all explained in easy terms on the blogger.com website)

The added advantages of being on the blogger community:

- once you upload somehting it automatically becomes searchable in google
- making the blog public means you'll get tons of random visits
- you can update it from anywhere - not just your own computer
- blogger (google) continously update their system and ad features
- it is absolutely free for real (no hidden fees, sign ups or other crap)
- you can customize and screw around with their templates and software as much as you want

Take a look at my rarely updated blog and you'll get the idea. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them or at least point you in the right direction.

Ok, ill have questions when i get home for sure...but im not looking on bloggin, this is going to be for my 86th Street Studios website for our company...but i personally like the feel of a blog site for it.

It makes it very approachable, and personable, ya know, like we are your buddies, because thats really my business moddo. And then have links on the side to pages with our movies, clients, etc...

thats do able with that style from wordpress correct? i dont want to use their graphic templates, i can make my own logos, and all that fun stuff

Wordpress and Blogger will do the same thing. whatever fits your fancy

it seems there's some jargon confusion going around here: the only diff between a "blog" and a "website" is that a "blog" is more of a diary type page while a "website" is .... something else. Basically everything is a website. What makes a blog different is the accessibility and functionality of it. The blog software whether it be wordpress, blogger or something else, is a simple php setup with css layouts and a database that contains all your entries. a more "normal" website would usually consist of a set of html pages with permanent links rather than virtual pages.

I think what you want to do is create a site with a blog-type front page and then permanent pages that are linked from the front page... right? in that case it doesn't really matter what you use. wordpress or blogger will do fine. they have pretty much the same functinalities and the same attributes and are just as tricky/easy to mod or customize. And then you can make as many other html based pages as you want to link to.

i dont like iWeb, ive tried it on each of my macs to see if i can get used to it and didnt.... :/

In all reality, i really have no clue what im doin. LOL quite sad, web stuff just scares me and turns me into an idiot...kinda like when im driving in SF, i all of a sudden have no navigation skillz

ok, now that i have time to get back on this project, i downloaded the Wordpress thing and it says i need to enter some mySQL info? wtf is that?

Seriously, if you have no idea how to use iWeb or Sandvox (The 2 most simple web page creators in existance), then there is no way you are going to figure out how to use Wordpress. Sorry, just being honest.

lol...sad but true. for me its hit or miss, i either get something fully , or just dont get it at all, and the whole interweb creating thing has eluded me for years.

anyone wanna do it for free for me?! :)

don't know. you'll have to see :) sorry
I'm sure it is customizable to a point. depending on what you are using as a web builder.

appearantly i need a host for this wordpress thing, and ive put it temporarily on my dvxhost thing and i go to the directory in my browser, and it asks for some info of my sql database thing, anyone help a little bit?

Every website has to be hosted somewhere. Wordpress requires PHP and a database to store your data - which is MySQL. Dunno what features DVX Host offers, but these days pretty much all hosting providers offer MySQL and PHP. But you will need those to run Wordpress, and if that host doesn't have them, you'll have to host somewhere else.
