Hey,

Working on a feature next summer. Can anyone recommend a good field monitor/production monitor? I am shooting with the DVX100 (original) and it needs to have a S-video input plus be 16:9 switchable. I've been looking at JVC.

Any ideas/advice?

Chris

I've been eyeing this one. It's 16:9/4:3 switchable. Don't know if it's S Video or not. Don't think it is.

That's a great little monitor, although it only has 280 lines of reso.
I use an older version of it, the 9" TM-910SU which has S-Video in, and can be had for $100-$200 second hand in good condition.

If you have the room & desire to go bigger, then this one:

is quite a bit better, at 15", also has 16:9, PAL/NTSC, and 750 Lines, all for less money.

here's the JVC page:

If I may ask a question about the TM-910SU....I looked at a picture of one on eBay. How do you power the unit in the field? I see "DC" inputs in the back, but what would you connect it to? I'm used to using montors that accept the NiMH battery packs. Two slide right into the back.
(Sorry, hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but I'm really in the market for a new monitor as well!)

It has 110V/50Hz/60Hz AC input, as well as 12V 4-pin XLR input. I run it from a universal battery pack with an XLR adapter. Works like a charm.

Be careful of offerings on eBay: watch out for physical damage, and things such as screen burn. But you CAN get some great ones one in a while.

Hey,

I think sticking to a JVC for say 10 inch or smaller is better as I want portability. I do not want to hull around an oversized production monitor. I just need soemthing that I can check takes and make sure the shot is properly framed.
