35mm adapter or minidv cam?

miniDV. It's worth saving wear on your camera's heads... plus, I like the crisp clean stock lens look myself.

Yeah, they're kinda two completely different things so I wouldn't really say you can compare their worth.

Another thing is that the price difference between the two is pretty substantial too. That's like asking should I rather buy a computer or a car?

well, first, i'm asking because i want to know what my next purchase should be... secondly... they would be relatively close in price. the letus35a would cost me around $370 and the mini-dv cam (used) would be around there too -- anyways. keep polling away!! I appreciate it!!

Well if that's the case with the Letus, get the second cam. (a little hypocritical I say this considering I still use my DVX as a deck. I know! I know!)

Honestly don't mean to be dix but I think everyone here can agree that the Letus, at least the cheaper incarnation, isn't the best 35mm adaptor. If you're gonna get one, don't skimp out or else you'll be regretting you bought something which you won't be able to use in most situations.

EA, I would have to dissagree. The letus 35A is just as sharp as the letus flip, you just have to flip the image in post, and for the money, I would say it is the best choice of 35mm adapters, unless you are willing to go for a Micro35. With that said, like it has been mentioned, you can't capture with a 35mm adapter, so I would go for the capture camera.

I would go for the MiniDV cam and then build the Snod35 in a few months when the DVD/kit is released. That's just my opinion though... which it 100% biased of course.

hahaha

hahaha

im looking forward to seeing the snod35. i dont know, guys, i REALLY like the look of the adapters, and plus... i just got my camera about a month ago and haven't officially used it for a SHOOT yet. i've really not captured any more than 40-60 minutes of footage with it yet. i think i will buy the adapter and a lens, and then use a friends mini-dv cam to capture (hahaha, only i wont tell him why)

now the question becomes, where should i get a lens? can someone find me a good lens and then teach me how i can attach it to the letus35a (72mm threaded)?

If you are talking about the 35mm lenses that adapters use, then you don't have to worry about attaching it to the Letus. The Letus will come with a mount that will fit a specific lens (ie: Nikon F mount). You just have to make sure that the lens you get matches the mount that you get with the Letus. Your best bet is to go with Nikon or Canon 35mm lenses. To start you will want a 50mm (focal length) 35mm lens. "35mm" refers to the format with which the lense is designed to be used... 35mm film. Later, you will want to look into getting a wide and a telephoto lens. You can start by taking a look at this thread:

I have had good luck getting my lenses from ebay, but others have not. Most camera shops will carry used 35mm lenses.

Hope that helps some.

i'd say 2nd cam

it's nice to have a little cheap cam if you just wanna use it for a hidden camera, or place it on a tripod at weddings, concerts, etc... and the obvious reason - to capture footage.

anyone else

anyone else

tjohara99, i never thought about using the cheap cam to film with. having two at a wedding is very useful! i've shot a couple, and i've had to borrow one from a friend each time.

anyone else care to vote?
