Nice topic...

Notables off the top of my head...

Clockwork Orange - opening shot is the first thing I thought of when reading this thread

Triumph of the Will

Moulin Rouge - hopefully I won't get flamed too hard for this one LOL

2001

Amelie

Lifeboat - an old and VERY underrated Hitchcock film - very well shot for it's time and given the setting

Star Wars New Hope

The Wrong Man - also underrated Hitch film - conservative and restrained shooting, yet very effective

Strangers on a Train

Shadow of a Doubt - the POV shot of Cotten during his manifesto and when he makes eye contact with his niece Charlie is one of my favorite shots of all time LOL.

Bergman's trilogy - Through a Glass Darkly etc.

Taxi Driver
8 1/2
The Royal Tenenbaums
Barton Fink
Eraserhead
Pulp Fiction
Harold and Maude
Blue Velvet
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('74)
Touch of Evil

These aren't so much of films I think are the most well shot, but just 10 of my favorites.

The Island? Seriously?

My list.

Baraka
Amelie
Schindler's List
Casablanca
The Thin Red Line
The Royal Tenenbaums
Blade Runner
Citizen Kane
Forrest Gump
Black Hawk Down
L.A. Confidential

Blade Runner
Road to Perdition
Thin Red Line
Apocalypse Now
Saving Private Ryan
The Ipcress File
The Conformist
Dr. Strangelove
The Godfather
Once Upon A Time in the West

Days of Heaven almost made my list, but maybe I just don't like the film that much. How about well shot bad films? I can't think of many. Funny how a bad movie can make the cinematography forgettable. Or maybe the two go hand in hand. Here are a couple.

The Patriot (not a horrendous movie, but the cinematography is far superior to the film itself)

Pearl Harbor (crap movie, lots of pretty pictures though)

Man on Fire (again, not a terrible film, but the style is fantastic)

The Thin Red Line (I'm one of those people who HATED this film...but wow does it look nice.)

John...I love how you cite examples with your picks.

I only have two picks. Because I wanted to submit several examples of each. Keep in mind...the topic is "10 Most Well Shot"...I am not a HUGE fan of The Patriot...its good...but to me, visually, its amazing.
