ooo what are thoes? how come i never heard of any of the up and up Audio formats..... im so behind on audio.

This reminds me of the whole guitar tube amps versus solid state arguments. While tube amps are far superior, they are also a lot more expensive and the average players do not really care. I am not surprised that solid state amps are selling more than ever nowadays. It is only a matter of time before tube amps are obselete (overtaken by modelling technology no doubt).

Only reason this is happening is because of pricing. Consumers will only buy if they can afford it. They just not buy it if they can't afford it. Forcing consumers to adopt the technology when the price is still high will do no good.

Price will be the deciding factor in the end. Quality is usually secondary with the majority of the consumer, with majority being the rest of the world and not just the States. While people in the States might have the spending power, the rest of the world (especially third world) might not. And, last time I check, the States is hardly the biggest market in the world.

Due to the price and availability, I can forsee DVDs still being around for many years to come. The market is too big to just be 'replaced'. And consumers can't really be forced to change. If they can't afford it, they will just not adopt it then. Only reason consumers will change is because of the cheaper price. One reason DVDs were so successful was because it was so much cheaper and more convenient than LD. So far, the whole Blu-Ray and HD-DVD fiasco only seems to offer too much confusion to the average consumer that might not be as tech savvy as us here.

That said, I totally agreed that a universal format should be agreed upon. Spliting the market is a very stupid thing too do.

I am also a gamer and while the initial announcement of PS3 excites me, the price tag left me feeling cold. 600 bucks? I have never spent that much on a console before and probably never will. I believe I speak for the majority (once again majority being not only the States, but the rest of the world) of the gamers when I say the average gamers will not be able to afford one. Sure the hardcore gamers will want it no matter the price but how many hardcore gamers are they? 20% of the market? Probably less?

How many teenagers (most gamers I believe) can actually afford it? Not everyone has rich mommies and daddies.

I also heard that games will be more expensive, after spending 600 bucks on a console, they expect us to pay even more for games? This is ridiculous. We are sadly living in a world where living costs are always increasing while your salary isn't.

That said, I just might buy a PS3 for MGS4 and or DMC4 and that's about it. I am too addicted to the MGS series and can't stand not knowing what is the next game all about.

For now though, I will just stick to my DVDs.

Heh, my friend and i have a really cool plan - He buys 1 console, and incurs the related costs, i buy the other. When either gets bored, switch

That's one of the funniest things I've heard in a while! Thanks!

Look 'em up on Wiki. You're not missing much as the technology is practically outdated anyway.

Interesting point. I actually have a Laney bass head that I bought about 4 years ago. This particular Laney is a tube/solid state hybrid. You can run it off the tubes or the solid state or a combination of both. Makes for some very interesting tones. But in defense of modelling technology, I finally became receptive and actually quite like it.
