There's nothing "broken" about how FCP handles P2, it's just an extra step to re-wrap it as a QT file. There may be some advantage to editing the MXF files as Panasonic presents them, but I've yet to have anyone explain it to me.
There is a 5.1.2 upgrade (free via Software Upgrade) next month that should add some nice features to the P2 import window.
