Top 10 Films of 1975...

1975...

With long lines spanning around theatres, Jaws single-handedly created the blockbuster as we know it today (it also famously kept people out of the ocean that year and became the first to hit that $100 mil milestone) - Pre-Production began on Star Wars, and ILM is created to rise to the visual occasion - :crybaby: We sadly lost classic film maestro ♪Bernard Herrmann♪

Please try to do a top 10 in order (hard as it may be) with an optional two or three "honorable mentions".

No, while I love The Man Who Would Be King, it is The Wind and the Lion that is my all time favorite. Glad to see it on your list, btw.

Easily one of the most qoutable of 75's movies, and still reigns supreme as underground college saturday night flick...can any other movie claim such fame.

Does anyone else ever think "70 points" when they see an elderly person on the road after watching Deathrace 2000?

There are times that I think I'm the only person who ever saw The Wind and the Lion. I'm really glad to see it on a couple of lists here.

Best Supporting Actor
Who Won: George Burns (The Sunshine Boys)
Shoulda Won: Michael Caine (The Man Who Would Be King) *Not even nominated

I completely agree. Michael Caine is a fantastic actor and highly underrated.

Sorry guys, but Jaws is not better than One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Dog Day Afternoon. Dog Day is almost the antithesis of Jaws. Everyone looks at Jaws as to how effective a score can be, yet Dog Day proves that a film can be engaging and highly effective without one.

Two of my favorite films came out that year. The Mirror and Picnic at Hanging Rock. I also love Grey Gardens.

In my opinion, there's Nashville.

And then there's the rest:

Dog Day Afternoon
Night Moves
Rollerball
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Three Days of the Condor

et al

I'd even go so far as to rank Nashville No. 1 for the 1970's. An extraordinary picture, by any stretch of the imagination.

Jaws, while entertaining, didn't require much intellectual involvement from the viewer. Consequently, while it may have set box office records, I wouldn't consider it a truly important film.
