Anyone use this one...KINOMATIK MOVIEtubeST Lens Adapter System???

I am in the process of purchasing new gear for my colleges film program and really need help finding a lens adapter system. I have read some reviews on the Redrock M2 and the P+S. Any help would be great.

Also, in looking for lenses...what is the going concensus? I am thinking of going with the PL mount and cinema lenses. However, the Nikon option may be a good fit. Anyone with experiecne in either, please weigh in.

Thanks in advance.

I have the nikon mount and just some cheap Nikon Series E lenses (ebay for around 20-40 bucks for each: 50mm 1.8, 35mm 2.5, 100mm 2.8) So those lenses would be good for students to purcahse themselves.

on the other hand if there is no budget in mind, of course going with true cinema lenses would be ideal, i wish i could.

Im not sure of your entire situation there, but the NIkon is the one everyone has and so you might be able to get ALOT of support with that as well for free here when you need help!

BTW I am using an M2 from redrock on the HVX obviously.

And if you are going to be needing matteboxes and Follow Focus's and still on a budget, especially if you need a few of them, be sure to check out Hysonfilms.com and ask him maybe about a bulk order. Hes a great guy with even better service

Are you happy with your M2? How about your Matte Box System? I went to the HysonFilms website and the unit was really really inexpensive. How sturdy is it?

Thanks for your help.

What were your thoughts about the movietube? Did it seem like solid contruction, quality material? How about the finished look of the video? Did they present any sample material to view?

I have priced the unit with AbleCineTech and it is around $14,000. Not a cheap unit to be sure.

Are you using the M2? What are your thoughts? How about a follow focus system and matte box. Please share your setup. Finally, what lenses are you using with you DVX?

Thanks for your help.

I thought the movietube was great, although I had no way of testing outside of the very well lit convention floor. I don't know what the light loss is in that unit. It has a built in flip and the one I tried had PL glass on it so it looked terrific! I didn't see any material that was recorded with the movietube system.

I am using the Brevis35 and so far (I haven't had it long) I am very satisfied with it. I posted some tests on the screengrabs section of this board. My experience is a light loss of 1 to 1.5 stops. That's pretty good. One of my tests was in a very low light situation and overall it handled it very well. I don't have a follow focus sytem or a matte box for my set up. I'm trying to figure out how to use my current mattebox (Vocas) in this HVX set-up. I think a follow focus will be a necessary purchase for the future. Trying to do rack focus manually with these small 35mm lenses is brutal. Currently I'm using Nikons but will have a Canon adapter soon. I have a nice set of Canon lenses I want to test.
Good luck.

Its extremely Sturdy and really light weight. You think thats expensive, try a pro name Cavision or Chrosziel, Petroff etc... Those are between 1000-1300.

230 for a mattebox that accepts filters up to 5mm, 4x4 two at a time, is a great deal. You really should contact Joel there at hyson for more info though. he will take care of some questions i cant answer. But ill give them all a shot.

The M2 is very nice and i have no complaints with it. Even with just some basic lenses we have we are getting some good results in testing so far, very minor testing, but results we are very happy with. With my job 9-5 in san jose, its more like a 7:30am to 6:30pm with the commute, and my partners job of 4pm to 10pm , we dont get much time together to work out the kinks of our operation, so we are still working on getting a nice short together using it to show off its versatility! Be patient everyone (knows no one cares about our tests) :(

Anyways, we have the hysonfilms.com mattebox and Follow Focus, and so far the FF has been extraordinary in a few tests weve done, the hard stop is great, and easily set , making it perfect for the M2 and lenses, Joel made our rings for us, and gave us extras so we dont have to switch out the rings, just leave them on the lenses forever! Both are rail mounted, but if you are using the stock lens, the Mattebox can actually be taken off the rail mount by a simple hand turned screw, and then mounted onto the HVX stock lens itself, and since its so light, it wont give any unwanted pressure to the lens. ADDITIONALLY! the Follow Focus can be mounted to the Mattebox for use with the stock lens focusing as well, so if you want to go with the stock lens and still use a Follow Focus you can easily do it without a rail system implimented.

Just let him know what you need and hell get it done. But be sure to contact him, because he is currently updating the site, and it appears new stuff is on the way in there. I always get excited when i website is being update :) YAY!

I was working on a review for both, but someone stole my sony digicam :( Well i dont know if someone stole it , but its missing and not in its usual places (under the couch, in the glove box, with the laptop accesories, next to the Mac Mini, in between the pyramid of beers , my pocket, [maybe its in the dryer!])

anyways, hope i can help you out

BTW , in case you havnt seen it in the other threads, heres a pic of the Hysonfilms.com Mattebox and Follow Focus on our HVX with the M2 and a Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens.

(sorry mods, i know the pic is big and all over the place, please dont spank me too hard :( )
