M2 + Cannon Lenses = What Matte Box?

Thanks, any links would be appreciated,

any mattebox that supports a rail system really. you cant mount a mattebox to the 35mm lenses, so it goes on the rails. I suggest if you are on a budget, for 230 bucks, the www.hysonfilms.com mattebox. That is if you dont have 1300 bucks for a cavision or something.

Heres a pick of it on my M2 and nikon lenses

The Follow Focus is also from www.hysonfilms.com and all you would need are gears that fit your specific lenses to work with it. He customized mine for my Nikons, and he could also do the same for your lenses. easy as pie, if you have the equipment. but ya, it will work with your lenses, just need gears made for your lenses, which he supplies.

I have the CAVISOIN hard mattebox. Works great!!!!!!! 1 rotating filter tray, 1 non rotating.

Tak, how fun was it to shim the M2 instead of the rails to get the rails to clear underneath the HVX?

Could you please provide exact data on all the accesories in your setup pic.

I am curious about the matte box, ff, lens, etc.

I am tryin to put together an awesome set of cameras for my colleges film program. Your setup looks great. How is it holding up? If you can, please provide as much info as possible, ie, item numbers, vendor, etc.

One more thing...are you using the FS-100 or P2 cards or what. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Theres 3 different Matteboxes on this page, which one?

Ah, it stands on its own on the rails, or it can mount using the same "threads" as the Stock lens hood uses to attatch to the stock lens. It doesnt mount to the 35mm lenses , so no extra weight being applied to the M2 at all. I really really wish i had my damn digital camera.

But ya, there is a removable ring in the mattebox where the lesn shoots through just in case your lenses are bigger than ours. Our lenses are 62cm in diameter approx which is perfect to keep the inner ring on the Mattebox, since the lens when adjusting the zoom, fits right through the hole there. If your lens is bigger, you just untwist and take out that inner ring and then shoot through the bigger hole (you also take out the ring when using on the stock lens. More info can be found in this post:

I was confused about how matteboxes attatch when using a 35mm lens adapter and lenses, and Jeol at hysonfilms was the only person to answer my questions, and has since still given me the best support.

im gonna have to buy one of thoes Hysons. you should PM jarred and spread the word these are gret. see if he will let you promote it here.

lol. i think i kinda promote it a little bit more than i should, i get a little over zealous sometimes as a few may know. I patrol and am on the boards here every day so i can suggest the mattebox when people ask others opinions. :)

Be sure to contact Joel like i said. The site is going through updates so maybe some more exciting stuff is on the way!
BTW: wheres Bensonhurst?

Brooklyn NY. My neighborhood. Where most of the NY "Mafia" movies that take place in brooklyn tend to be in Bensonhurst.

but you know its funny i ve hardly seen you on the board. So just to get this straight, you are a member of the Hyson films company? CAuse you have the DVXhost and M2 tiles in your sig as well. just curious.

Nope, not affiliated with hysonfilms.com at all, but it seems like i am i guess. :P

Just an over zealous user i guess. When i like something i support it, always have been that way. Its not easy finding good places and good people to get stuff from, so just making a small contribution of spreading the word about his product. It is appearantly really new on the scene, i checked his reg date for the website and it debuted in March 06'. Just lucky I found someone else posting about how they liked it and i really needed and was activly seeking a mattebox and follow focus for over a month without any other site actually specifically answering my questions.

Hell, cavision took a week just to get me a price list for some reason.

The follow focus and matte box (hard, 2-stage) are both Cavision. The lenses are Nikons, and the ff gears on the lens are from Redrock. I also have a Chroziel whip for the follow focus (which Cynic and I have vowed never to discuss again, after he got the best of me with a brilliant line last night). You'll also need the "cinema" gear from Cavision for the RR follow focus rings.

I'm using two 8GB P2 cards and they work wonderfully. If I were doing long-form shotting, I'd definitely consider the FS-100 or like. Hope that helps.

P.S.: I'll have a music video (I shot this weekend) up by the end of the week. It will also be available on DVD for those who buy Mac Video magazine (I have written an article about my rig for them and they are putting the music video on the DVD to accompany the written piece). The M2 with Nikon primes is stunning. You'll see.
