I use Firefox, and absolutely love it. There are two extensions that you definitely need to check out:

Addblock
Filterset.G autoupdater

The former is an extension that can block adds (obviously). The second connects to a database of known ads, and updates Addblock to reflect this. I haven't seen a banner add in a VERY long time.

I've been using Firefox for about a year now, and tabbed browsing is sweet. On occasion I've had to use IE for certain sites, but that's very rarely.

Word of advice, don't try to uninstall IE. Actually, I don't even think it's possible since it's your interface with windows. But being the organizer/minimalist that I am, I tried and it caused some headaches.

Even desktop Folders ? Is this the whole Micrsoft Antitrust suit thingy?

I think it may be tied to Outlook as well.

Anyone using the Mozilla EMAIL ?

Thanks for the tip Diesel

What about the Explorer.exe function in processes ? Leave it running ?

Not sure John, I just checked my processes and it's running on my machine as well (and using 21mb of memory).

Mozilla email sucks IMO... don't turn Explorer.exe off... trust me... not good... it's for everything... all folders, "My Computer" everything...

explorer.exe is the Windows file manager, so basically it's the program that lets you open folders, etc. makes up a huge part of the interface and is not related to Internet Explorer.

I second everyone that recommended firefox, been using it for 2 years and I could never go back to Internet Explorer, I loved tabbed browsing, extensions and the customizable bars. Also, I like the fact that new toolbars don't just randomly install themselves every couple of days like it always happened to me with Internet Explorer.

However, Internet Explorer 7 is coming out soon and it basically copied all of firefox's functions (tabbed browsing, rss, etc.) So firefox might have some competition in a few months.

Edit: Haven't used Mozilla e-mail. However, there is Mozilla Thunderbird which is an e-mail client almost identical to Outlook, except free and open source.

Can I make a New Tab goto the Same page everytime ? (Like Isara?)

it's nightlife time in NYC so I gotta run, but tabs are very powerful in Firefox. You can setup several tabs, and then SAVE that configuration of tabs to run everytime you start Firefox.

I'm not sure on your question, try the firefox forums but I think it defaults all new tabs to blank and you can't change that, not too sure.

the BEST TRICK no one has mentioned is PAGE INFO under tools. Goto a page with embedded media like FLash, Quicktime, etc. and then click PAGE INFO.

Then click the MEDIA tab, and you can SAVE AS any object on the page! It's the best way to stea- I mean "download" content from people who are trying to keep it from being stol- I mean downloaded.

Yeah, I was hoping to have the blank pages be able to open to s specifc place each time (Google search)

I've always just used web-based email (yahoo, lycos, hotmail, etc). I never even set up outlook on my 2 pc's, which I also tried to remove, but it mysteriously reappeared.

Oh, I frogot to hint some of the amazing Firefox plugins!
Fasterfox
Adblock
Downthemall
Allpeers
Just to name some of my favorites.

I don't know how to do that but remember that right next to the address bar Firefox has the integrated google search, so you could just open up a new tab and search right from up there on the new tab. Also on that integrated google search bar, you can change that to other engines like Yahoo! or (my favorite) Wikipedia.

In addition, if you type something into the firefox address bar that isn't an internet address it will go straight to the first google result for those terms. So for example, if you type in the address bar: wikipedia lupus

Firefox will take you straight to the lupus article in wikipedia. That's one of my favorite features.
