Running tone to the DVX

hey folks,

I've got some DVX shoots coming up with a sound guy who is relatively inexperienced and I was wondering how many little bars you guys use on the VU meter when you set tone on the DVX. I'm used to setting tone on a Betacam, where you get a sumber scale, but that's not gonna fly on the DVX, and usually, if I do have a sound guy and I'm on the DVX, they just take care of it, however I feel like this new guy wont know what to do, so, How many little bars?

depends on your tone level. but, generally, 0dB on the mixer can go to either -20 on the camera (7 bars) or -12 (hotter signal - you will need limiters on your mixer to pull this one off).

the dvx meter is from 0 downwards in 2db increments. the first white from the top is -12 (its the one with a dash through it).

i'd recommend -20 if you are unsure.
