Carlos.

That's great. I"m in Orlando and was thinking about being able to rent the Gates housing for an upcoming shoot. Could you send me a link to the rental prices and guidlines... and or send me a PM with that info. I specifically would need it for a weekend. Pick it up on Friday and return it on Monday...

Thanks

Hello Jason,

Having shot extensively with a VX1000 & VX2000 in Amphibico housings it has been a transition in going all manual control. However, after several test dives I quickly acclimated to the manual controls and have fallen head over heals in love with the Gates/HVX combo. Yes, manual controls with no visible confirmation lights are less than ideal... true, the Amphibico switches on the handles are just the S&%& but the Gates industrial build definitely gives you a positive, form factor confidence that translates in to spectacular images.

I am working on a 720p project right now that has extensive VX2000 footage that was shot because we did not have a housing for the HVX... We tried an Equinox and disliked its form factor so much that we did not even get it wet. We returned it and shot SD. Heavy, cumbersome etc... So now we have shot the show open with the Gates/HVX combo and brothers the complete experience from pre-pro to final image is just- AWESOME!!!! Image quality, stability of the housing in the water and the Gates optics are all just SUPER PREMIUM!!!

I know your next question! I did not even feel the 2 X 8 gig P2 cards in 720pn. More than sufficient!!! Yes, I will quickly scoop up the 16 gigers but the 33 minutes worked fine for now. Once again, image is KING!!! and the Gates/HVX is the KING!

Have you not found that using an external monitor that all necessary info is displayed? Did the monitor help tremedously in framing and focus?

I use the viewfinder for focus & the ext. monitor for framing... The point I was making is that the Amphibico allows for complete control without lifting your hands off the handles. Withe Gates you are always letting go to adjust a switch or knob. All and all it becomes second nature quickly and actually promotes mastering flowing jib style movements.

I am making our Gates HVX Housing available at a reduced rental fee to DVXuser members. PM me for your rates.

I also have the Gates HVX housing. Great housing. I also went with the Fathom super wide port. I think it's worth the extra $ ( $4,500 I think it was), especially when water clarity isn't perfect. I've mounted daylight balanced HID lights and done some customizing with syntactic to get stable neutral buoyancy.

My only complaint is the external monitor. For zoomed in CU's , it takes a lot of concentration to make sure you've got the focus right, and underwater is always full of distractions. I hope gates comes up with a better monitor option soon.
