So how long is the cord for the oktava? Will I be able to mount it at the end of the boom and connect it to my camera? It said something about 1 ft. cord, have I misunderstood something?

the cord is 1ft but it is made out of the russian version of what we call bungee cords.

they pronounce it banjeece curd.

it can stretch easily to 15 ft.

you need to make sure you use sand bags on your mic stand or the mic will drift a litlte bit do to the inherent tauntness of the line but the flexibility of having a cable with multiple langths makes up for the small inconvenience of having to mount the mic that way.

HAHA nice one.

Actually the oktava has NO cord. You will have to buy XLR cables of whatever length you require.

I'd suggest getting the mic, then the fish/book pole, then looking at it all and figuring out what lengths of cables you want to connect it all together. don't forget to allow extra cable so you can actually EXTEND the fishpole.

I have an Oktava mic that I've usually used mounted to the cam. It cam with a small cord but I went to a guitar center and bought a longer cord (13 ft.). As long as it has the right xlr inputs it will hook up to your camera with whatever length cord you decide works best for you.

I forget off the top of my head which brand cable I bought, but it was slightly more expensive but came with a lifetime warranty, can't beat that.

There are many threads about types of cables and the best ones to get - and those are the ones that MattinSTL makes. If you need cables, contact him privately - I think he's still making them.

Mine was bought from Paul at The Sound Room on an installment plan where I make payments each month. So it came with a really, really long cord which is attached to the mike until it is paid for.

If I miss a payment Paul starts pulling on the cord and I have to run up the street chasing the mike as it bounces towards The Sound Room. Then I have to make a payment right away so Paul will put some slack in the cord so I can reel it back home.

LOL

But honestly mine came with no XLR cord at all. I have plenty already.

Oh that helps a lot guys thanks. Because I purchased the oktava from soundroom and it said that it came with a 1ft. cable, so I was thinking "alright, I gotta purchase the xlr cable seperately." I really hope its the one that stretches to 13ft, boy that'd be nice.

 Ummm. WTH. Mine only stretched to 9'11''. They told me it's and extra 50$ if it goes over 10'.

But do you guys really need more than 10 ft? Well... you guys probably do, its just I always imagine the situations of what I'll be filming, and I don't picture myself having the audio that far away from my dvx. 10 ft. will do.

So the one footer and the 10 footer come with it you think? That's weird because I went back to look at the order I placed and they're not mentioning it...hmm..besides guys, there's a guy on ebay who sells a 60 ft xlr cable for $12. He has plenty left. He's a powerseller and CABLES are the only things he sells.

10 feet is almost always going to be too short and 60 will make cable wrangling a nightmare. A couple of 20-25' is a good start. There is never such a thing as too many cables.

If you don't think you will be for then 10' from camera, don't forget you need some slack so it can lie on the ground and add some for then distances up the pole (assuming your pole is not internally cabled). Even then do you really want to be in situation where a small tug or trip will give you a pile of plastic, circuit boards, and lens? Always have enough to at the least create a safety loop and hopefully get you about twice the distance you think you will need.

In reality with a 10' cable you would be lucky if you could stand more then a foot from camera with your boom pole extended about 3'.

Cheers

dude, the oktava DOESNT COME WITH CABLES. no professional microphone does. thats why they dont mention it.

When I bought my A-T shotgun from B&H, there was a 'package deal' that included a very nice 1 foot cable with right angle connector, and the Rode hotshoe/universal shockmount. Check with other retailers, they might have a special package deal from time to time.
