Is their a bigger problem than a supply issue? some have brought up speculation about a licensing issue with the big dog panny. IF their is this issue than the release date could be mid 2007 or even longer. For fairness for those that need this type of porduct could their be more precise info. At leaset people coiuld make a decision on whether to seek other avenues.

I know this is a private company matter but this is a public unit that hundreds are awaiting with sweaty palms. :)

As you can tell, we have not announced a partnership with Panasonic and they have not made public statements regarding the CinePorter™. We are not at liberty to say where our discussions are, but please understand that our relationship with Panasonic is very important to both of us on many levels and is something we are not taking lightly and are working hard to protect.

Thanks for the encouraging words Ted,

I know some will have to move to another solution and there are a couple now, but we feel as you do, it has to be right!

David

If it's any consolation, I called a few vendors and none of them have the FS100 in stock, and they don't expect any for about another month.

SumFum: You make a very good point that people sometimes miss. P2 cards are out of stock and so are the cameras, and as you said so is the FS100.... Even with the CinePorter, I will be buying another 4gig P2 card. Smaller job each 4gig card makes one DVD, which includes the FCP files and renders, audio files etc..

The CinePorter is going to revolutionize this industry, and send Sony and the BlueRay recordable disc back to the drawing board, and it will be at least a year till they catch up to what Spec-Comm HAS DONE!!!! Actors are going to be pissed because we wont be able to just sit around all day waiting for Film to be switched :)

Sorry if this has all ready been mentioned but i'm too lazy to sift through 31 pages of posts.

1) Can the cineporter be mounted any other way like a firestore ie on hot shoe

2) Why is it so damn big. With todays size in HD storage eg a 60gb ipod is tiny why does it have to be so huge.

Forgive my ignorance.:)

People around here are very forgiving of ignorance, but not so tolerant of laziness!

But, y'know, it's gettin smaller.

Come on 305 pos... woops 306 posts I just don't have that much time on my hands (wish I did).

It's so big because there's 2 disk drives in there. This will allow your to RAID the drives. It's probably too heavy to mount on the hot shoe, but you can wear it on your belt and use an extension cord to the P2 slot.

I could see it mounting on the hot shoe with additional support from some sort of undercarriage. That's not a bad idea actually although it might make a top-heavy rig.

It's also big unit because smaller hard drives run slower and are generally less reliable due to small parts. Smaller hard drives are also more susceptible to vibration (less mass). Large hard drives are faster and more stable. If you go with smaller HD's you might as well go with Microdrive P2 cards.

1) No. It can be mounted remotely though.

2)It's not as big as it looks and the new one is going to be smaller. We are using 2 2.5" drives and they are shock mounted. There is also substantial amount of circuitry and an internal battery. It's like saying "why can't the HVX be the size of a palm-corder?" With current technology, everything just won't fit!

David,

I appreciate what you're doing and I think one should certainly take as long as one needs to get something right, but, as an HVX200 user, I don't know how much longer I can consider a Cineporter without a solid release date in the near future. I've been trying to make do with my 4 gig card in anticapation of this technical marvel but this may no longer be possible. When jobs require us to shoot higher volumes many of us aren't going to be able to try Cineporter once we've already blown $2000 on a FS-100 or $2200 on two 8 gig cards.

David,

I really appreciate what you are going through. Delays are always a problem when developing new gear.

In the beginning we considered keeping this project a secret until we were ready to ship, but felt that the critical market and user feedback would be missing. At one point last spring, when we realized that there will be delays, we considered "closing" the project publicly and just re-announce it when it's ready, but felt that this would be unfair to those that were waiting in expectation. We can still do that so that the wait would "end" and everyone would simply purchase the available technology and proceed with their business.

P2 is going to be around for a long time and we are committed to the format. There will always be a need for the CinePorter™, even when the bigger cards come out. So, when it ships you will have a decision to make, but at least you are not sitting around waiting and passing up projects.

It pains me greatly to hear that this project is causing hardship and since we can't give you a ship date at this time, I am open to your suggestions of what we can do.

Best Regards,

David

Recently got the HVX myself, I am happy playing around with SD, and just in general getting to grips with the cam for a few months, but it would be great to get hold of this device by the end of the year.

From first hand experience, I know how long product launches can take... it can be a tad disheartening, especially if/when similar products begin appearing from nowhere. It's the whole cashflow debate I guess. So long as the pre-launch adjustments you are making to the product are being developed faster than general industry innovation, you'll be fine. It certainly is hard to decide when something is finished! :)

When can we expect an update to the spec-comm website? Updated pictures of the new design, updated weight and spec figures, release date update, etc? That would be cool.
Thanks much
Jason

Many of us are in the same boat. some have x amount of dollars for one unit. I guess this is why I brought up the list omment. Hope to see this product in early 2007, maybe something else will come out. who knows. i do support the thought and innovation behind the cineporter, no doubt.

The p2 card is an innovative revolution, a turning point and with the cineporter and other similar great products, the added benefit to p2 technology will florish. Good luck

The cineporter looks great and I would buy one if it was available now. I am on the wait list for the Firestore F-100 and have just heard about the CitiDisk HD Hard Drive Recorder. What other products are there of this kind?

David,

I too have been wrestling with the same questions DavidB brings up... whether or not I can afford to wait if a release date isn't in sight and what that does to the availability of funds for the Cineporter when it makes it to market.

What might help some of us is some kind of timeline you feel comfortable with, so that those of us who need solutions sooner rather than later can make some projections as to whether or not it makes fiscal sense to wait.

Has the release moved well into 2007 based on what you know today? Can you approximate the release in either 1st Q, 2nd, or so on?

Like everyone here, I think your product looks to solve a lot of long-form issues and is greatly anticipated. Thanks being candid with us as you've moved through the process. Looking forward to your product.

David (there are af few of us here)

I am personally hoping for a November release. Aim for before the 20th, which is my birthday.
Hear me david? :) Release the cineporter so that I may have the best birthday ever!!!

That or tell me the suppliers names who are causing the delay. Let's just say I know a guy, who knows a guy. :)

David:

This is ridiculous! Your project is not causing hardship; it's offering a great solution. People's inability to deal with uncertainty is perhaps a cause of hardship... but folks just have to learn that product development DONE RIGHT is driven by performance issues rather than delivery dates. Hardship would come if you shipped a product before it was ready!
